  6. Hot Topics -- cntd • Strategic Planning – As part of its annual planning cycle, ICANN is seeking comments on a draft of the priorities for the strategic plan. These priorities will become the framework for the July 2009 - June 2012 Strategic Plan. Comments close 17 November 2008. • Add Grace Period – Public comment is sought on the draft implementation plan for the AGP Limits Policy that was developed by the GNSO in response to concerns about domain name tasting and approved by ICANN’s Board. Comments close 20 November 2008. • Role of Individual Internet Users in the GNSO – The ICANN Board is seeking additional community input on the appropriate role and representation of individual commercial and non-commercial Internet users in the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO). Comments close 28 November 2008. • IDN ccTLD Fast Track Process Implementation – Comments are encouraged on the Draft Implementation Plan for the IDN ccTLD Fast Track Process. The IDN Fast Track Process is a mechanism recommended by the IDNC Working Group, focused on the introduction of a limited number of non-contentious IDN ccTLDs, associated with the ISO 3166-1 two-letter codes, to meet near term demand, while an overall IDN ccTLD policy is being developed. Comments close 08 December 2008.

  7. Hot Topics -- cntd • New gTLDs – The draft 'Applicant Guidebook' for new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) is now available for review and comment. The draft Guidebook provides information for those interested in applying for new generic top-level domains. Comments will help with the production of the final Applicant Guidebook, to be released early 2009. Comments close 8 December 2008. • Vertical Separation of Registries and Registrars – ICANN is seeking public comment on a report entitled “Revisiting Vertical Separation of Registries and Registrars,” which was developed by CRAI at the request of ICANN’s Board. Comments close 8 December 2008. • ALAC Review – The Board’s ALAC Review Working Group (WG) has released its Mid-point Consultation Report for discussion with the ICANN community. This preliminary report presents the WG's "initial thinking" on the questions under review following the publication of the Independent Review of the At Large Advisory Committee. Comments close12 December 2008. • Board Review – The Independent Reviewer's Report on the ICANN Board has been posted for public comment. This report will be used to inform ICANN's effort to develop detailed proposals for improving the Board's structure and processes. Comments close 12 December 2008.

  9. ccIDNs - timeline • IDNC WG Final report, ICANN sent letters to all countries and territories requesting information about their interest in participating in the Fast Track process • ICANN is still receiving responses (as of 1 November): • Total number of letters to national governments: 252 • Total number of letters to ccTLD operators: 252 • Total number of received responses: 58 • Number of received responses stating an interested in obtaining an IDN ccTLD during the fast-track process: 32 • 30 respondents specified one or more IDN ccTLD labels - 10 respondents at this stage did not yet specify the IDN ccTLD label(s). Some of the respondents that specified the IDN ccTLD label(s) also specified that they had no interest in participating in the Fast Track process. • A total of 14 languages are anticipated to be represented initially through the IDN ccTLD fast Track process. • The responses estimate the earliest availability for launching an IDN ccTLD within 3 months and the latest being available per the end of 2010.
