USDA Memo SP 16-2019: School Breakfast Program: Substitution of Vegetables for Fruit • Allows SFAs to offer any vegetable subgroup (including starchy) to be offered at breakfast without also having to offer 2 cups of non-starchy vegetables throughout the week. • Effective immediately, through September 30, 2019

  4. Contract Renewal Important • SY 2018-19 Contract Deadline – Before April 25 in Online Services • Update Program End Dates to include: • Snow Days • Summer School before June 30 • Be sure to update for Lunch, School Breakfast, Special Milk, and Afterschool Snack Programs

  5. Contract Renewal Before May 1st • Complete PLE Survey and, if necessary, PLE Tool (USDA releasing next week) • Complete any Joint or Vendor agreements (with all signatures) for SY 2019-20 • Use the most current SNT template

  6. Contract Renewal On May 1 • SY 2019-20 Contract opens in Online Services • Contract open between May 1 and June 7 • Watch for the Contract Renewal Memo in Schoolmealsnews bulletin

School Nutrition Skills Development Courses (SNSDC) • The $10 registration fee • can be paid online and will be completed through a separate website than registering for classes.   • permits you to attend as many classes as you need.   12. Professional Standards • A set number of continuing education or training hours are required annually all school nutrition staff. • These coincide with the school year and must be completed by June 30. • Include trainings on the school’s tracker.

AmeriCorps Farm to School Program • Timeline: • April 19, 2019 – Notice of Intent to Apply DUE • May 3, 2019 – New Site Application DUE • May 3 to May 17, 2019 – Application review • May 17, 2019 – Target date for grant award notification • May to August, 2019 – AmeriCorps member recruitment and onboarding • August 15, 2019 – Program start!

  15. School Nutrition Accountability Software • The DPI School Nutrition Team invites you to use ourfree school nutrition software. The main goals of this system are to: • automate and simplify your current practices to help make your school nutrition program run more efficiently, and • easily communicate with DPI about the administrative aspects of your school nutrition program(s).

SNACS contains features that are designed to increase productivity and support program compliance. • SNACS provides: • Reminders and alerts to keep you on top of program requirements, • Assistance with free and reduced price meal application approval and access to online free/reduce applications, • Automated letter generation capabilities and a basic management system, • Increased efficiency with direct certification, • Guidance through the verification process and simplified reporting, • A streamlined process for Administrative Reviews, and • Much more!
