2013-2014 SSB willchange as little as possible . . . Weare a Nordic school offering multiple national programs. Webelieveeverychildshould be able to communicate in, at least, threelanguages. We offer qualityteachers, smallteachinggroups witha focusonevery student, and a supportivecommunity for families.
Group questions Q. Howwould it work for Norwegian students in the Swedish system? Students wouldfollow Swedish curriculaand the Swedish timplan (division ofhours). Students wouldhaveNorwegianmothertongueclasses Whichsubjectswould be in Norwegian in the Swedish program? Mothertongueclasses for sure, possiblyothers Whatguaranty do wehavethatwewill be grantedcertification in oneyear? We do not have a guaranty. However, as of August 1, 2013, wewill be in completecompliancewithNorwegian national demands so wefeelconfidentwithourapplication. Q. Howwill the groups be dividedif all students are in the Swedish program? Whataboutclasssizes? The teams will be groupedCl 1 – 4 and Cl 5 – 7 and Cl 8 – 10. If groupsexceed 20, SSB willprovide extra resources/dividegroups. Q. Would the student’sknowledge be tested in Swedish? In the subjectof Swedish, yes. In all othersubjects, it is what the student knowsaboutthatsubjectthat is assessed. Students would be allowedto express themselves in theirownlanguage. Would students needtotake Swedish? Yes Howsafeareteachers’ jobs? The majorityofourstaffare on permanent contracts. Wewanttokeepour team – it is a strong team.
Group questions Q. Howmanyteachersare on 1st yearcontracts? Approximately 10% ofourstaffare on 1st yearcontracts. Are the fees suggested based on certain student numbers? Yes, the schoolfeesarebased on the numberof students wehavetoday. Howwill Kristy leavingaffect the situation? Not at all. Therewill be a qualifiedreplacement. Wework in a strong team, admin and board memberstogether. Weare all focused on providing a strong program for all students. Do the Norwegian students haveto go up as privatist? Yes, ifourappeal is unsuccessful. Our VG students whoremain in the Norwegian program wouldhavetotakeexams as privatistin Norway. Will the Norwegian students get the same amountofclasses in French and English? Yes Whatwill be the effect on boarding? Boarding has a waiting list. We do not anticipate a negative effect on ourboarding program. Is the first option for Norwegian students about the same program as wehavetoday? A. Yes, it is the same program as wehave from January 1, 2013
Group questions Arethereanychangesplanned for the Danish program? No, at thistime, we plan to offer the same program for ourDanish students as today. Will repaying the fine affectourschoolfees for nextyear? No. Does the fine haveto be repaidbefore the appeal is finalized? The school board will not appeal the fine. The date for repaying the fine is June 19, 2013. Does the schoolhave the moneytorepay the fine? Ofcourse, the schoolwill ask for an installmentpayment plan tominimize the impact on our budget. Yes, the school has the fundstopay the fine. Whateffectwill the fine have on the teaching? Therewill be no impact on the qualityofinstructionduetothis fine. Wherewill the moneytopaythis fine come from? The schoolwillliquidate stocks and fundsto cover this fine. Wewillliquidateouroperationalreserves. Do weneed a minimum numberof students to offer the Norwegian ”option 1”? Yes, weareproviding a survey tonighttobetter understand the numberof students interested in each option. When do weneedtodecide on options? A. Deadline – Feb 8
Group questions How realistic are the proposedfeesto be accepted by Udir? The feelevel in accordancewith the Norwegian private schoollaw is maximum 15%. SSB can offer the minimum amountofhoursrequired for thisfee. It would be necessarytohavedispensation for a higherfee (as applied for in June 2012) or take an additionalfeetocontinuetoprovide lunch, healthservcies, additionallanguages, etc. Is thereany risk that SSB will be ”inspected” again? SSB willabsolutely be inspectedagain. In Sweden, all schoolsareinspected on a threeyear rotating basis. In Norwayschoolsareinspectedaccordingto national quidelines. Inspectionsaregood – theyensurequality in our programs. SSB is completely prepared to be inspected in the future as a part ofourqualityassurance process.
