Famous People and Advancements (Technology) John Kay - Flying Shuttle (a cord mechanism that moved the woof thread more rapidly across the loom) James Hargreaves – Poor English worker, made a machine named it the Spinning Jenny. Facilitated large amounts of harvested cotton. Samuel Crompton – Combined the best features of the jenny and the water frame, which is called the spinning mule. Edmund Cartwright – Improved weaving, with the invention of loom, powered by water and one person could weave as much as clothe as 200 hand loomed operators. Ellie Whitney – Invented the cotton gin, a machine that could do the work of 50 people. One of Kay's sons – Invented the way to print color patterns on cotton clothes Richard Arkwright- Improved with a machine called the water frame, it is a spinning machine that is driven by water power. Loom – It is a series of thread called the wrap, strung from top to bottom.
Labor Source • People works to make cloths. • Machines also works • Jenny, water power, flying shuttle, spinning mule and cotton gin
Predictions for Impact on Great Britain • Cotton become cheap to produce and sell in great Britain • In 1903 England exported 1 million pounds of cotton • They became the cotton textile center of the world • Cotton clothes became cheaper with all the inventions
Predictions for How it will Spread and How it Will Impact Other Countries • The improvements that the European countries showed such as building canals and railroads encourage the United States to use the same method that the British because the US had the materials and resources to build the similar things. • Borrowing the British industrial methods led to increase in population and taking risks in business. • In the 1800’s, United States spread the methods to the west and spread the industry all over US and in the late 1800’s the steel industry started in Pittsburg andthe United States was ranked the second largest manufacturing nation. • The new inventions and methods helped farmers to work in their field much more easier and faster.
Why Our Topic the Most Important Factor in the Advancement of the Industrial Revolution • The products helped the Industrial Revolution because the flying shuttle and the spinning Jenny were used to make cloth and weave faster. • You could do more work faster and it took less time to produce textiles.
