  2. 8.01 – Two position to legally deliver to the batter: Windup and Set 8.01(a) – Windup PositionPitcher facing batter with his entire pivot foot on, in front of and touching and not of the end of the pitcher’s plate. Both hands in front of his body.Any natural movement associate with his delivery commits him to pitch to batter Rule 8.00The Pitcher

  3. Rule 8.00The Pitcher • 8.01(a) – cont’dMay take one step backward and on step forward with free foot. From this position, he can:1. Deliver the ball to the batter2. Step and throw to a base in an attempt to pick-off a runner3. Disengage the rubber (must step off with pivot foot first)

  4. Rule 8.00The Pitcher • 8.01(b) – Set PositionPitcher stands facing batter with his entire pivot on, in front of and in contact with pitcher’s plate and his other foot in front of the pitcher’s plate holding both hands in front of his body and coming to a complete stop.

  5. Rule 8.00The Pitcher • 8.01(b) – cont’dPreparatory to coming to a set position the pitcher shall have one hand on his side. From this position he shall go to the set position without interruption and in one continuous motion.Cannot pitch from the end of the rubber with just one side of his foot on the plate

  6. Rule 8.00The Pitcher • 8.01(b) – cont’dFollowing the stretch, must hold the ball in both hands in front of his body and come to a complete stop. • 8.01(c ) - Anytime prior to committing to the pitch, he may throw to any base provided he steps directly toward that base before the throw.

  7. Rule 8.00The Pitcher • 8.01(d) – An illegal pitch with bases unoccupied is a ball unless BR reaches 1st safely. • 8.01(e) – If pitcher removes his pivot foot from contact with pitcher’s plate, he becomes a fielder; wild throws are considered to be from a fielder

  8. Rule 8.00The Pitcher • 8.02 (a) – A pitcher shall not:1. Bring his pitching hand in contact with his mouth within 18 foot circle. 2. Apply a foreign substance3. Expectorate on the ball4. Rub the ball on his glove, clothing5. Deface the ball in any manner6. Deliver any such ball

  9. Rule 7.00The Runner • 7.09(i) – a base coach at 3rd or 1st touching or holding a runner or physically assists him in leaving 3rd or 2nd • 7.09(m) – a fair ball touches a runner on fair territory before being touched or goes by an infielder

  10. Rule 8.00The Pitcher • 8.02(c ) – Pitcher shall not delay game by throwing to other players (except catcher) when batter in position. • 8.02(d) – Pitcher shall not intentionally pitch at the batter. • 8.03 – No more than 8 pitches when relieved

Rule 8.00The Pitcher • 8.05 – It is a balk when, with runners on:(a) makes any motion naturally associated with pitch and fails to deliver(b) feints a throw to first and fails to complete the throw(c ) fails to step directly toward base(d) throws to an unoccupied base, except when making a play

Rule 8.00The Pitcher (e) pitches an illegal pitch (f) delivers a pitch while he is not facing the batter (g) any motion to pitch when not touching the plate (h) the pitcher unnecessarily delays the game (i) on or astride plate without the ball (j) in legal pitching position, removes one hand from the ball

  13. Rule 8.00The Pitcher (k) drops the ball (l) when giving an intentional base on balls, pitches to the catcher when he is not in his box (m) delivers from a set position without coming to a complete stop
