  17. Kanchanaburi jewelry Kanchanaburi Sapphires once mined in the small province of Kanchanaburi just to the west of Bangkok Thailand are famous throughout the jewelry world. Fine quality deep blue Kanchanaburi sapphires have been used in some of the best precious Sapphire jewelry pieces by top jewelry designers.

  18. Kanchanaburi blue sapphire pendants, diamond and sapphire rings and diamond sapphire earrings are truly the most precious of jewelry.

  19. Kanchanaburi: The Bo Ploy area 30km north of this very touristy city, known for its bridge over the River Kwai, where the company SAP is still mining a large domain and is converting the areas mined already into a golf course and lake resort.

  20. Bo Ploy is now just a shadow of was it was in the past. The area was discovered in 1918, and a small gem rush occurred, but soon the deposit was thought to be depleted. Its rediscovery in 1987 turned the area into a major mining center. After few years of strong activity, the production has decreased.

  21. Currently the loss of mining activity has made difficult to find a room to sleep or even a place to eat in Bo Ploy, which is difficult to imagine in Thailand .Besides blue sapphire, large quantities of black spinel known locally as “nin” are mined and most of the time sold on many Thai markets as “onyx”.

  22. Prasat Muang Sing Historical Park The ancient prehistoric civilization flourished in the western part of Thailand dates back to several tens of thousand years.  From Kanchanaburi province especially in the basin of the two branches of the Kwai Yai and Noi rivers, many archaeological objects have been discovered.

  23. One of the most important sites found in the Kwai Noi River basin is an ancient city site named Muang Sing. The important discoveries made near the ancient city remains include prehistoric  human skeletons together with metal tools, vessels and ornaments; brick bases of the Dvaravati period architecture; and the laterite ruins of the13th century.

  24. This Muang Sing must have been an important outpost of Angkor as it was mentioned in the Prasat Phra Khan inscription made during the reign of King Jayavarman VII.

  25. The three lesser monuments could have been built in the same period as Prasat Muang Sing in the 13th century, in the area which had been on the important communication route that connected central Thailand to Lower Burma.

  26. Wat Pa Lelai Wat Pa Lelai, known locally as Wat Pa ok sistuated in the vicinity of the ancient town of Kanchanaburi and built in the Ayutthaya Period. The Mondop – a square building – once enshrined a seated Buddha image in the gesture of subduing Mara, which was drilled through the chest – ‘Pha Ok’ in Thai.

  27. An image of the Buddha receiving offerings from a monkey and an elephant known as ‘Palilayaka’ - Pa Lelai - was later constructed to replace the former one. Remains of architecture within the temple include Mondop, Wihan and round brick chide with clay mortar and cement coatin.

  28. This episode in Buddha gestures means that. His needs were taken care of even by the members of the animal kingdom. This is a good image for those born on Wednesday evening.

  29. Wat Pa Lelai is the location of the ancient city of Kanchanaburi. It’s on the way to Erawan National Park. It was an ancient border town during the Ayutthaya period. A large seated Buddha image is part of the small compound which features also a ruined chide and a building which houses several Buddha images.

  30. The ruined walls have now been covered with a modern roof top. The large Buddha image with a money and an elephant represents the generally entitled Pha Phuttha Palalai image.

  31. Mon Bridge…the longest wooden bridge in Thailand From the beginning, local people called this bridge as “One Baht Bridge”. It was built of bamboos tied together like a long raft across the river, but left open in the middle. So, when people wanted to cross the river, they had to pay one. Thai Baht then staff would pull the bamboo raft to connect the bridge.

  32. After that, Luang Pau Utama, who is a distinguished and venerable monk, thought of helping people not to pay for crossing the river every day. He decided to have Mon people build a bridge of excellent woods. Eight months later, in 1987, the bridge had been done by labor and faith from Mon people without use of any engine at all.

  33. It was formally named as “Utamanusorn Bridge”. However, local people just call it “Sa-Paan Mon” as it is shorter and easier. (Bridge means “Sa-Paan” in Thai) Also, with its 438 meters length, Mon Bridge becomes the longest wooden bridge in Thailand.

  34. From then on, it has been used by people on Sangklaburi District, mostly Thai, and people in Mon Village to visit the other side of the river. Walking along the bridge will let you see a tremendous panorama of the lake behind Wachiralongkorn Dam and the are a where three rivers become one. Until now, Mon Bridge has been renovated for four times already.

  35. History Luang Ta Maha Bua The Theravada Buddhist temple is located in the Saiyok district of Thailand’s Kanchanaburi province, some 38 km north-west of kanchanaburi along the 323 highway. It was founded in 1994 as a forest temple and sanctuary for numerous wild animals.

  36. In 1995 it received the Golden Jubliee Buddha Image, made of 80 kilograms of gold According to the abbot and others associated with the temple, in 1999, the temple received the first tiger cub, it had been found by villagers and disd soon after.

  37. The story goes that several tiger cubs were later given to the temple over time, typically when the mothers had been killed by poachers, others who wanted to get rid of their tiger “pets” or those were under pressure to do so as laws and policies surrounding the keeping of cites protected species became more strict.

  38. As of 2007, over 21 cubs have been born at the temple and the total number of tigers is about 12 adult tigers and 4 cubs.
