The University of Derby The University of Derby Corporate Plan sets out a 'back to basics' approach with a clear focus on delivering the core, fundamentals required of a high quality, successful learning institution. 3. The University of Nottingham • The University of Nottingham is a public research university in Nottingham. It was founded as University College Nottingham in 1881, and was granted a Royal Charter in 1948. • Nottingham's main campus (University Park) and teaching hospital (Queen's Medical Centre) are on the outskirts of the City of Nottingham, with a number of smaller campuses and sites elsewhere in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Outside the United Kingdom, the university has campuses in Malaysia and China. Nottingham is organised into five constituent faculties, within which there are more than 50 schools, departments, institutes and research centres. Nottingham has about 45,500 students and 7,000 staff, and had an income of £637.6 million in 2016/17, of which £123.7 million was from research grants and contracts. • Nottingham is a member of the Sutton Trust 13, an elite group of 13 UK Universities which are regarded as the most prestigious and selective and are ranked highest based on the average rankings of surveys by The Daily Telegraph, The Times, the Financial Times and The Sunday Times

Nottingham Trent University • This year Nottingham Trent University celebrates its 175th birthday, its roots go back to 1843 with the establishment of the Nottingham Government School of Design which still exists within the university today. Nottingham Trent University is proud of its history and heritage and has built upon these attributes to become a truly modern University now located across 4 campuses including Clifton, Brackenhust (Southwell) and 2 sites in the city • The University is the 13th largest in the UK and has a turnover of £300m 4,000 staff and 31,000 students • Fiona and Rowena will be presenting on the Nottingham Trent University ‘Approach to working with Communities’, members of the wider team are available to support and participate in the subsequent Q& A session

5. The Open University • The Open University (OU) is a public distance learning and research university, and one of the biggest universities in the UK for undergraduate education. The majority of the OU's undergraduate students are based throughout the United Kingdom and principally study off-campus; many of its courses can also be studied anywhere in the world. There are also a number of full-time postgraduate research students who use the OU facilities for research, as well as more than 1,000 members of academic and research staff and over 2,500 administrative, operational and support staff. • The OU was established in 1969 and the first students enrolled in January 1971. The university awards undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as non-degree qualifications such as diplomas and certificates or continuing education units. • With more than 174,000 students enrolled, including around 31% of new undergraduates aged under 25 and more than 7,400 overseas students, it is the largest academic institution in the United Kingdom (and one of the largest in Europe) by student number, and qualifies as one of the world's largest universities.
