STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES OF THE RSR • Setting up a regulatory institution for monitoring safe railway operations in • South Africa. • Creating a regulated environment in the railway industry pertinent for promoting • the use of railways as a mode of efficient transportation. • Creating a safe and secure railway environment for the protection of persons, • property and the environment . • Encourage cooperative agreements with stakeholders that are interested in • improving railway safety. • Promote railway safety harmonisation in South Africa and in SADC.
Develop the RSR Infrastructure , Systems and Processes - . Resource • the RSR structure that is aligned to the organisational strategy. • Establish effective relationships with relevant institutions in both the • public and private sectors to increase railway safety awareness • Structuring and staffing of the RSR – addressing critical skills shortages • implementing skills transfer, coaching and mentoring programs. • Compliance to The Railway Safety Regulator Act, ACT 16 / 2002. • Design , align and implement information systems – reporting on the state of • railway safety in South Africa • Assure Safe and Secure railway operations - A better life for all.
