Mobile Air Monitoring Program What is it for? • The Mobile Air Monitoring Program is a new initiative from the Air & Water Pollution Services Division, designed to help the Galveston County Health District achieve the goals set forth in the Strategic Health Plan, Priority #6, Goal V, Assure systems are in place to collect accurate and available data.

Mobile Air Monitoring Program What is it? • The Mobile Air Monitoring Program currently consists of; • A staff of trained Environmental Investigators. • Two mobile monitoring trailers to be equipped with; • Meteorological monitoring equipment to measure and record; • Ambient Temperature, Barometric Pressure, Wind Speed and Direction • Ambient air sampling equipment. • 6L Summa Canisters, Timer, Flow controller.

Mobile Air Monitoring Program What will it do? • The Mobile Air Monitoring Program will; • Take 24-Hour samples of the Ambient air that will be taken to an outside laboratory to be analyzed for U.S. EPA Method TO-15 listed compounds • Record meteorological data during the sampling periods • Prepare comprehensive reports concerning the compound levels, compared to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Health Effects Screening Levels (HESL) for each measured compound

  5. Mobile Air Monitoring Program Why do we need it? • Gather information about the types and levels of pollutants that impact Galveston County communities • The limited availability of TCEQ mobile monitoring (Once, every 2 years) • Increasing concerns in the community over air pollution levels

  6. Mobile Air Monitoring Program Where will it operate? • While the Mobile Air Monitoring Trailers can be deployed throughout Galveston County, sampling activities will be concentrated in Texas City and La Marque neighborhoods. • In areas surrounding local industrial sources

  7. Mobile Air Monitoring Program How is it funded? • Through cost savings under our TCEQ Air Monitoring Contract (particulate matter monitoring)

  8. Mobile Air Monitoring Program How can it help? • Determine what pollutants are impacting the community • Determine where pollution levels are the greatest in the community • Help narrow down the possible sources of excessive pollutants

  9. Mobile Air Monitoring Program Where do we go from here • Present information to elected officials • Meet with industry representatives • TCEQ Quality Assurance document – waiting on final approval • Test run • Deployment in the field
