Reflexive Verbs • Use them to say that people do something to or for themselves • The person who is doing the action is also receiving the action • Ejemplos: ducharse, bañarse, lavarse, cortarse, vestirse, etc.
Reflexive Verbs • It is obvious a reflexive verbs is being used when the verb ends in the infinitive + se • To conjugate reflexive verbs we need to remember the reflexive pronouns we learned: • Me (yo) • Te (tú) • Se (él, ella, Ud.) • Nos (nosotros) • Os (vosotros) • Se (ellos, ellas, Uds.)
Lavo el perro I wash the dog Me lavo las manos I wash my hands Reflexive v. Non reflexive Some verbs have both reflexive and non-reflexive uses. It is up to the speaker to find out if it is necessary to use the reflexive pronoun or not. Nostros secamos la ropa We dry the clothes Nos secamos las manos We dry our hands
Reflexive Verbs • When using a reflexive verb with a body part or clothing, don’t forget to use the definite articles (el, la, los, las) Ejemplos: Él se lava los pies. Ella se limpia las manos. Tú te cortas el pelo.
