AFM - 2006 Round 1 - Buttonwillow Raceway March 26th
250 Production • The Aftershock 250 Production class rolled to the grid with David Crone on his # 731 machine on the Pole. Last years Champion Jay Kinberger was a now show. John Anner was next to him with Richard Lesher and Michael Jones Jr. completing Row One. • When the Green flag flew it was Crone making the most of his spot and grabbing the lead. He made the most of it carrying the spot all the way around the track and leading the entire first lap of the first race in 2006. Vlastimil Kotyza was the second man thru with the # 779 of Mike Corbino moving to third and then a little gap back to Andrew Boehm and the rest of the field. Michael Corbino in action
Crone continued to march around the track in the lead and Corbino seemed to be on the move and was now challenging Kotyza hard for the second spot. He made his move entering Turn One on lap two as the pair split a lapped rider from the 450 SB class that had started in the first wave. No doubt this would remain a challenge for the 250 Prod leaders who had to find the right spot to get by the bigger bikes. • Corbino worked his 250 hard and found his way by Crone to assume the lead as the pair came to the ½ way flags and had a couple of bike lengths to boot. Crone was not done by any means and closed back up to make it side by side across the line at the next go round. A good battle was really heating up between the pair. Andrew Boehm came home with 4th
Crone found his way around and when they hit the banking it was again side by side racing with both using more track that should be allowed going thru the Lost Hills. Corbino once again got by Crone and led across the line for the White Flag with a whisper of a lead. Crone again gave it a go in the banking send the men side by side again into the Lost Hills in a wicked fight. Corbino made the most of it and took the first win of his young career, which left Crone in P-2. Looks like this may be the start of another good AFM rivalry. • Results: • 1. Mike Corbino # 779 • 2. David Crone # 731 • 3. Vlastimil Kotyza # 62 • 4. Andrew Boehm # 607 • 5. Michael Jones Jr. # 316 AFM # 404 John Anner
450 Superbike • 450 Superbike brings some interesting machines to the grid and we can trust that the guys racing them do a lot of wrenching to keep these bike in the running condition it takes to win this class. • Mike Lohmeyer brought his # 177 machine to the Pole with Ross Wells, Craig Sanders, Jose Quintanar and Mark Elrod filling out the front. Greg Becker, David Wallis, Robert Clifford and Michael Nashita made up the second row and the class would take the first green in a two wave start that included the 250 Production machines. • It was Sanders with the jump at the wave of the green with Wells and Lohmeyer fighting to be the first to Turn One. Lohmeyer made it work and slid into the lead. Jose Quintanar made the podium Mike Lohmeyer took the win
Wells slid in behind Lohmeyer relegating Sanders to third. Lohmeyer put his head down immediately and started to pull a gap on Wells. Sanders hung in with Wells as the two hit the Bus Stop and strafed thru the Riverside Banking. • Lohmeyer carried his lead across the line for Lap One leaving Wells 5 bike lengths behind, but 2 ahead of Sanders who was being joined by Quintanar with a gap back to Becker, Elrod and Nashita all battling for 5th. Lap three had the 177 machine way out front and Wells had stretched the gap to a now 3rd place Quintanar just ahead of Sanders. Lohmeyer was dominating the field as he took the ½ way flags and Wells had a couple of seconds on Quintanar, who had left Sanders a couple second behind. Lohmeyer continued his smooth run to the checkered and started his year in powerful fashion. • Results: • 1. Mike Lohmeyer # 177 • 2. Ross Wells # 32 • 3. Jose Quintanar # 94 • 4. Craig Sanders # 327 • 5. Greg Becker # 869 Classic asphalt surfing style
