  1. WHAT IS LMI? LMI is the data about jobs that can be used to support career decision making, leading to informed, appropriate and achievable career choices. It helps individuals determine which occupations suit their aptitudes and interests, where the jobs are, and which occupations have the best prospects.

WHAT DOES LMI COVER? • Options with your subjects/qualifications • Where vacancies are advertised • Skills and entry requirements • Occupational areas • Employment trends • Industries within Northern Ireland • Opportunities for flexible working • How easy/difficult it is to enter an occupation • Vacancies that employers find hard to fill

  3. WHAT ARE THE FUTURE JOBE OPPORTUNITIES IN N. IRELAND The need to use LMI is extremely important, particularly in light of the current economic situation. Northern Ireland is expected to show signs of recovery in 2010, but competition for jobs and places in further and higher education will increase dramatically.

  4. What you need! Participation in enrichment activities (communitylink projects, sport, drama, etc) is increasingly important to gain access to further and higher education as well as employment.

  5. Where will the jobs be? There will be job opportunities across all occupational areas in Northern Ireland but more are expected in occupations relating to: travel and tourism, food and drink, creative industries and those related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

What do STEM related areas include? • Environmental engineering • Agri-food • Computer science • Renewable energy • Advanced engineering • Biomedical science There will be a greater emphasis on sector specific skills and qualifications. These will be needed by the high tech exporting companies which are important for the future growth of the Northern Ireland economy.
