  7. RC DeSSA Procedures for Exemptions Exemptions • STCs will get form @May 15 • Due: May 31st • Will be sent LOCKED • Reasons:

  8. Non-participation • Spreadsheet to document reasons for non-participation • Examples: • Parent refusal • Student refusal • Truancy/ attendance issue • Medical but no note (although DOE asks for that on the exemption form) • Non-Participation counts against school accountability

Alternate settings • Positive Change will test • Placement is considered a homeroom SO Jason Storey is a TA at all buildings • Students stay in “sessions” for the school; you may create a separate session and move the students • Keep in contact about who has tested or who may need an exemption • Consortium programs should test (Kingswood, Parkway) • You are the accountability school; the program is a “service” school • Keep in regular contact about who has tested or who may need an exemption • DSCYF school programs should test • Previously was considered its own accountability school, changed with most recent school accountability • Keep in regular contact about who has tested or who may need an exemption

Staff Electronic Devices • Ideally staff cell phones, apple watches, and other electronic devices would be out of the room (locked in car or in a non-testing room) so as to prevent potential disruptions • If that is not feasible or still of concern, the device needs to be turned off and locked away • Consider reminders

DeSSA Other Training Updates • New courses released in April 2019: • How to navigate PAN for DeSSA S/SS by user role • General training on how to use reports in all assessment systems reporting, including DeSSA ELA/Math, DeSSA Science/Social Studies, Access, KITE (DLM – DeSSA ALT) • District ISO training for update of DeSSA ELA/Math, DeSSA S/SS and KITE user creation and role assignment • New courses released in May 2019: • How to use the new Edinsight Reports Portal reports for all assessment reporting • How to review DeSSA Student level assessment data

NAEP NAEP UPDATES • Email to thank schools for their participation in NAEP will be sent this week. • Currently creating PDMS course to offer continuing education credit for NAEP school coordinators. Email will be sent to all coordinators once PDMS course is available. • Thank You Hartly Elementary administrators, school coordinators, staff and students for your participation in the TIMMS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science) assessment on April 2nd!!!

DOE Approved Accommodations Information • Bilingual Dictionaries • There is no official list of bilingual dictionaries provided by Smarter Balanced • For Bilingual Picture dictionary use, submit a Unique Accommodations request through the DOE Help Desk • Large Print • Submit a Unique Accommodations request for Large Print requests • If student uses an electronic magnification device to read a regular print copy, submit a Unique Accommodations request • Specialized Equipment/Furniture (will be fleshed out in the AG next year) • Select the Designated – Non-embedded Support in TIDE for use of Guided Readers, Slantboards, Special furniture (Anything that’s not electronic does not require DOE approval) • For Electronic Specialized equipment – AACD, Voice Output Systems, Screen Magnification readers on the general DeSSA Assessments – Submit a Unique Accommodations request

DeSSA Science/Social Studies Updates • Roster Updates: • Grade level rosters are stable • HS Biology Rosters: • We have still outstanding charter and district schools who are missing a roster or students • Please submit a help desk ticket so technology is aware and we will work on getting them resolved • Extra HS Biology Rosters: • Please submit a help desk case regarding any extra rosters, include the following: • Pearson Roster Name • District/Charter course code, so they know which course to specifically remove • Or specific student ids if it is just a few students • HS Biology Test Participation Rates: • Currently these Participation Rates cannot be calculated from Pearson system due to extra Biology Rosters loaded in system.

DeSSA Science/Social Studies Updates • Testing Updates • Test that need to be in different test session type: • Paper Transcription • Text-to-Speech with Graphics • Key Word Translation • What needs to be done: • All districts who have students in wrong session types should have received an SFTP regarding these students • Please make sure all students are moved to correct test session type. Please see the appropriate Appendix in DeSSA S/SS TAM or the DeSSA S/SS Paper Pencil TA training

DeSSA Science/Social Studies - Reset Protocol • Reset can be requested for the following situations: • Student was not tested in correct test session and did not receive accommodations/supports • Student did not receive accommodations/supports for testing (if student did not take more than 6 items) • Reset Protocol for Pearson: • Parent must be notified that student did not receive accommodations and determine if student will be re-tested • If student is to be retested, submit a DOE Help desk ticket with the following information: • Student ID/Name • School Name/Code • Session Name • Grade/Content of Assessment • Pearson will be notified: • Student test will be Marked Complete with Do Not Report Reason • New Test will be assigned based on correct accommodation

  30. DeSSA ELA/Math Updates • DeSSA ELA/Math Updates: • Too many reset request for assessments that were incorrectly started. Please remind your test administrator’s of the following: • Only create a test session with the assessment that is to be administered in that session. Select the grade/content specific assessment only • Do not do global select of all assessments • Review the assessment the student has submitted for approval. If it is not the correct one deny and make them select the appropriate assessment • Too many Accommodation related resets: • Please make sure all student accommodations are correct before student enters testing room • Make sure TA has a copy of student accommodations • Please remind the TA to review student accommodations before approving test request

  31. DeSSA Smarter ELA and Math Administration Milestones and Dates - 2019

  32. SMARTER BALANCED INTERIMS Office of Assessment is completing a study on the correlation between interim use and summative proficiency scores. Preliminary results show that students who take at least 2 interims have higher proficiency scores. The sample group used for the study were districts who have used the interims consistently for the past 3 years. We are continuing to collect data and refine the study.
