Why Lane Stadium? • I choose Lane Stadium because I’m now a Hokie and I’m a diehard sports fanatic. • I’m also very interested in the tradition and history behind Virginia Tech, and this project was an excellent opportunity to do so. Lane Stadium
History of Lane Stadium1 • April 1964: Construction begins • Oct 2, 1965: First Varsity football game; 9-7 win over William and Mary • Oct 23, 1965: Stadium dedicated to Edward Lane • Summer 1968: Construction complete; original capacity of 35,050, $3.5 million dollars spent. • 1980: Additional seats added, capacity up to 52,500 • 1982: First nationally televised game, Tech wins 21-14 over UVa. • 1994-2001: Yearly renovations and additions Lane Stadium 1 Lane Stadium/Worsham Field
