  2. COMPONENTS • AIR SPRINGS AND VALVES • COMPRESSOR • SENSORS • CONTROL MODULE

  3. AIR SPRING • Replaces coil Spring • Can be inflated or deflated to trim car • Can be controlled individually or all together

  4. LATE MODEL AIR SPRING

  5. AIR SPRING VALVE • Normally closed • Intake or Exhaust • Mounted like a radiator cap. lock tabs • Controlled by Module

  6. AIR PUMP/COMPRESSOR • 12V Powered • Single Piston • Contains the Air Vent Valve • Air Drier • Controlled by Module through a relay • High Current

  7. Vent Valve

  8. SYSTEM MODULE • Usually in trunk • Controls: • Air Spring Valves • Air Vent Valve • Compressor Relay • Self Diagnostics • No KAM • Inputs • Sensors • Switches

  9. POWER ON/OFF SWITCH • Usually located in trunk • Must turn off if raise car

  10. HEIGHT SENSOR • One for each front wheel • One for both wheels on rear axle • Different construction

  13. SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS • 1984-87 Continental - - Controlled leveling of vehicle only ( • 88 to present Continental - - Combines air leveling, automatic ride control, speed leveling

  14. 88 Continental Diagnostics • Visual Inspection • Vehicle Preparation • Drive Cycle Diagnostics • Service Bay Diagnostics • Spring Fill Diagnostics

  15. DRIVE CYCLE DIAGNOSTICS • Designed to catch intermittent faults. • Will store up to 32 fault codes in module for one hour after key off. • This test is done by driving car until the ride control warning lamp illuminates or the technician has determined that there is no fault. • If no fault, enter Service Bay Diagnostics

  16. SERVICE BAY DIAGNOSTICS • Broken down into 3 parts • Auto/Manual Diagnostic Checks - - Is a self check of system. Will say good or bad • Fault Code Display - - Displays codes • Functional Checks - - This test leads you to doing pinpoint tests
