Purpose of Tonight’s Meeting: • Give parents a chance to meet your child’s teacher. • Brief outline of the year ahead for Year 6. • No time for individual parent consultations – please make an appointment with the teacher to discuss any queries you have. • No time to look at children’s work.
Communication • Diary – first line • Arrange to meet class teacher – diary, email or phone • Newsletter • Parent conferences Tuesday 9th November, Wednesday 10th November • Report card – end of Term 3
Equipment List Each child needs:- • 30cm ruler • HB Pencils • Red, blue and black pens • Coloured pencils and felt tip pens • Highlighter pen • Eraser • Scissors • Glue • Protractor • Calculator (basic will do, but children will need scientific calculator in secondary school) • Dictionary
Inquiry Units Term 1 :- How We Express Ourselves Who We Are (ongoing – Exhibition unit) How the World Works Where We Are in Place and Time Term 2 :- Where We Are in Place and Time continues How We Organise Ourselves Sharing the Planet Term 3 :- Sharing the Planet continues Who We Are - Exhibition
Inquiry Work • Cross – curricular - incorporates Science, Geography, History, Drama and Art • Genre/writing skills taught during the unit of inquiry e.g. Report writing, Explanation, Procedure • Maths inquiry work linked to the units of inquiry e.g. Data Handling, Space and Shape, Measures and Problem Solving • Projects presented in different formats – orally, written, computer, video etc
Mandarin 45 mins each day
P.E.Mr Riddell, Mrs Pennell (Mrs White) All classes to WEAR PE kit to school. All children must have hat and water bottle. Wednesday - All classes to field for games after October mid-term break
Homework Expectations Daily 30 mins reading (with adult support) and a reflection 45 mins working on homework task from the Inquiry sheet on SPLAT HW Standards Inquiry – further thinking on the current unit - reading books, newspaper, internet sites for further information, discussion of key vocabulary etc
Balanced Children • Promoting healthy, balanced students. To maximise learning, children need 9 – 10 hours sleep each night Bedtime = 9.00pm Read half hour Sleep at 9.30 • Healthy snacks and lunches • Water – no fizzy or sugary drinks • Daily exercise
LANTAU CAMP Monday 25th – 29th October Expectation that all children attend • All classes going together • Indoors accommodation at YMCA • Fitness prior to camp is necessary. Begin now by walking at least 30 mins each day. • Children should have raised $500
Exhibition • Exhibition = Requirement of authorised schools at end of Primary Years Programme • Opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of IB Learner Profile that have been developing throughout their engagement with the PYP. • Exhibition will be ongoing throughout the year and the final presentation to take the place of traditional Year 6 Production.
Can you help? • Would anyone be willing to run a club at lunchtime in a language other than English, for example: Arts/Crafts, Home Language Story Reading/Culture? • Ms Connie Yee is looking for volunteers to help in the library. • Please contact Mrs Sue Yee if you are interested or need further information!
