Assisting countries & organisations • Country • Maintain INSARAG Focal Point • Prepare USAR teams according to INSARAG guidelines • Information updates on Virtual OSOCC • USAR Team • Comply with INSARAG Guidelines • Minimum capacity • Management (OSOCC support) • Logistics (self-sufficiency) • Search • Rescue • Medical (stabilise victims) • Establish/strengthen (provisional) R/DC and OSOCC, if needed
Responsibilities OCHA • Initiate Virtual OSOCC • Situation updates & summaries on Virtual OSOCC • Deploy UNDAC (upon request) • Initiate IHP/APHP Support Modules, if needed • Convene lessons-learned meetings, if required
INSARAG – International Teams’ Role • The mission of USAR Teams is ideally to handle the more “difficult” rescues, meaning those victims that can not be easily accessed. • These actions require specially trained and equipped rescuers, used to operating safely and effectively in highly technical and dangerous rescues.
International SAR Team Deployment Procedures • 1 Inform the INSARAG Secretariat (OCHA/FCSS) in Geneva (through the Virtual OSOCC) • Contact the Reception Centre on arrival in disaster-affected country (established by UNDAC) • Link with on-site OSOCC (managed by UNDAC team)
