  4. Auditory Auditory Learners Auditory learners tend to benefit most from traditional teaching techniques. Many teachers use a lecture-style forum, presenting information by talking to their students. Regulating voice tone, inflection, and body language will help all students maintain interest and attention. Auditory learners succeed when directions are read aloud, speeches are required, or information is presented and requested verbally.

  5. Enjoy talking. Talk aloud to themselves. Like explaining things to others. Remember names. Recognize variations in a person’s tone of voice. Understand concepts better by talking about them. Are distracted by background noise. Have difficulty following written directions. Read slowly. Have difficulty being quiet for extended periods of time. Like being read to. Memorize things by repeating them aloud. Enjoy music. Whisper the words on the page as they read. Hum or sing often. Like being around other people. Enjoy the performing arts. Auditory Learners Usually:

  6. Auditory The way traditional way of teaching works best for this group. By traditional I mean: The teacher standing at the front and lecturing. Giving examples and calling on students.

  7. Kinesthetic Learners Most of the school population kinesthetic means: touching, feeling, experiencing the material at hand. "Children enter kindergarten as kinesthetic and tactual learners, moving and touching everything as they learn. By second or third grade, some students have become visual learners. During the late elementary years some students, primarily females, become auditory learners. Yet, many adults, especially males, maintain kinesthetic and tactual strengths throughout Their lives ."(Teaching Secondary Students Through Their Individual Learning Styles, Rita Stafford and Kenneth J. Kinesthetic Learners Usually: Move around a lot Like to touch people they’re talking to Tap their pencil or foot while doing schoolwork Enjoy physical activities Lay on the floor or bed when studying Express their feelings physically (i.e., hugging, hitting) Have difficulty sitting still for extended periods of time Excel in athletics and the performing arts Are considered hyperactive Enjoy touching things Move their hands when they talk Dress for comfort, instead of style Take frequent breaks when studying Do not spend a lot of time reading Have difficulty spelling correctly Like to solve problems by physically working through them Like to try new things Are coordinated and agile

  9. Kinesthetic Kinesthetic learners are most successful when totally engaged with the learning activity. They acquire information fastest when participating in a science lab, drama presentation, skit, field trip, dance, or other active activity. Because of the high numbers of kinesthetic learners, education is shifting toward a more hands-on approach; manipulative and other "props" are incorporated into almost every school subject, from physical education to language arts. Hands-on teaching techniques are gaining recognition because they address the challenging needs of kinesthetic learners, as well as the diverse needs of auditory and visual learners.

  10. Visual Visual LearnersSome students rely upon a visual learning style: "Show me and I'll understand." Visual learners benefit from diagrams, charts, pictures, films, and written directions. These students will value to-do lists, assignment logs, and written notes. Many of these techniques, however, also benefit kinesthetic learners.

  11. Visual learners usually: Like to read. Are good spellers. Are organized. Notice details. Doodle on their paper. Have good handwriting. Are easily distracted by noise. Would rather watch, than talk or do. Remember faces better than names. Have trouble following verbal directions. Memorize things by seeing them on paper.

  12. Visual I believe that the visual learners can be both the hardest to teach and the easiest to teach depending on the subject.

  13. Auditory-Digital No one fits just one category. Everyone is a mixture of the three. However, people do tend to favor one method over another.

  14. Auditory-Digital Also, the methods that work for an individual tends to change as they grow older.
