Organization & 2007 Summary • Administrative Assistance • Perrine RIVIERE  Marie-Laure LECOQ; March 2008 • Courses/Sessions in 2007 • Classroom: 107 sessions, 1053 participants (normal level) • 13 new Courses, see later • Strategy changes • Plan majority of sessions in advance; less popular ones upon demand • New registration feature: offer course, session defines language (possibility to choose preference); thanks AIS! • Bring non-central courses back to central TT • TS: Catia, IT: Oracle 10G Certified Professional, Performance Tuning • More effort needed! 3. Feedback new Courses – 2007 I • Schematics + Pcb-design: ALTIUM / Cadence • Migration from P-CAD 2004 • ALTIUM Designer • for simpler designs, 2 levels (beginner + migration), good feedback, 3 good trainers • 2 beginner sessions/year, migration session every ~3 months • CERN configuration provided, library porting (TS-DME) still ongoing • Cadence • meant for more complex designs • 1 session October, 1 more in March (little interest! Please advertise) • LabVIEW cRIO FPGA • Pilot Oct 2007: 6 participants, good feedback, do again • VHDL courses • Advanced level: Doulos – excellent course, very + feedback • Expensive, but worth it: limit to every 2 years (mostly AB) • Comprehensive: pilot with Cadence, better price, positive feedback, re-negotiate with Doulos/continue w/ Cadence Silvia Schuh, HR-SMD-LD, TEC Feb 2008, 3/10

Feedback new Courses – 2007 II • Object-Oriented Analysis & Design + C++ • New trainer (Rochat) found, pilot in Feb 2008 • Principally good feedback, will continue with C++ curriculum; make final decision once all courses given (7/08) • Demonstarting Reliability through Accelerated Testing • Larry Edson from GM, Feb 2008 • Together with E. v.d.Bij (TS) • Very interesting discussions, time seemed ripe • Various spawned ideas : central reliability testing lab? 5. Previous issues - update • AutoCAD 3D • CAEC October 2007: CATIA is the CERN standard for all 3d-applications, TT is requested not to organize AutoCAD 3D training • COMSOL • Request from AT to organize workshop at CERN with TT • Problem: site-license expensive, no IT-support • CAEC Feb ‘08: negotiate combined license+training deal with Comsol before organizing workshop (ask purchasing for help) – to be done • No shows • Fee for JCOP courses + reminders ~10 days before course • Working very well, almost never no-shows now • Course evaluation • Back in electronic form since Feb ’08 (SharePoint) • Not final solution, waiting for CTA integration Silvia Schuh, HR-SMD-LD, TEC Feb 2008, 5/10

New upcoming courses • Electromagnetic Discharge Protection • Incl certification: 29/Feb pm • LabVIEW Certification Day • April 17, cost: 195-460 CHF/person (valid 2 y) • LabVIEW Advanced Course • September/October 2008; negotiations ongoing • NetApp (storage systems, compressed course) • End March; our help requested: got price down to very acceptable level (-58%!) • Sharepoint Collaboration Workspace • 2 days, E & F, 2 excellent trainers • Work on • Linux curriculum, adv Python, Testbed driven development, GRID course(s) Silvia Schuh, HR-SMD-LD, TEC Feb 2008, 6/10

7. Migration to Office 2007 & Vista • Migration to Office 2007 • All courses given on Office 2007 since summer 2007 • 2h-IT-Tutorials on Novelties in Office 2007 + Sharepoint Collaboration Workspace • October 2007: french-version, free of charge, taped • April/May 2008: English-version • 1-day “Update”-courses, Word+Excel+PPT; might go to 1/2-day course per program (2nd session March 4) • Migration to VISTA • Expect on new PCs April/May 2008 • First 1/2-day VISTA training: April 4 Silvia Schuh, HR-SMD-LD, TEC Feb 2008, 7/10

Issues for discussion • Advertisement • Session cancellations when too few participants • Bulletin not sufficient since electronic version! • Number of (Java, C++…) courses need >= 7 participants • Waiting time increases to several months • Ideas • Email to potentially interested people • Via DTOs/experiments • CERN login page?? • Course price change? • Between sign-up and course-taking, changes in provider can happen. Do you want to be asked? • Course charging • Sign-up in a specific year, course-taking and charging in a different one. Projects under Development I • ECDL-news • Office-2007 tests available only later in 2008 • Plan regular ECDL certification sessions (1/mo) • ~10 certified examiners willing to continue, select ~5 • small pilot session on 25/02 with C. Darbellay • Next end March 2008 (by us) • Plan “Accelerated ECDL” • Per module (4 + 3-in-one) • ½ day review geared to tests, take diagnostics on own time • Next ½ day review diagnostics test together (examiners) • Take certification • Need 10 ½-days to complete ECDL, 2 weeks during am • ? What in TT do we really want covered ? • Office courses alone • Office + IT courses • Online books? • Online tutoring? • Pay per course or for free access for a year? Commitment for 3 years? • F.e. 200 users Desktop: 34E/y; 200 users IT: 161E/y (>=3 years!!) • F.e. no commitment longterm: ~50E/y (only Desktop) • How many users/year? • Pilot use of Skillsoft still ongoing, consider pilot for Mediaplus • Interested evaluators?
