American Education 1. Higher Education -- There are over two thousand universities, colleges, or other higher education institutions in the USA. --A university may have many branches.eg. -- The University of California, with several branch campuses, has more than 128,000 students.

American Education -- Almost a quarter of all the colleges and universities are private. Every state has at least one public university. And in the USA there are several hundred state and locally-supported colleges. But the academic programs are similar in these private and public institutions.
American Education --There are three types of institutions of higher education in the USA. 1. two-year college. Now it is named a community college. 社区学院 2. four-year college: liberal arts college, or college of arts and science which can offer the degrees of the Bachelor of Arts (BA) and the Bachelor of Science (BS)
American Education 3. University. A university may have several colleges within it, such as a College of Arts and Science, or have one or more professional schools, such as medicine, dentistry, law, veterinary medicine.
American Education --There are three ways to divide up the academic year. 1. The semester system is divided into 2 equal term of about 16 weeks. 2. It consists of 3 terms of about 11 weeks 3. It is 3 equal terms of about 15 weeks each
American Education --One credit: 16 hours -- It is common for the students to work to earn money not only in vacations but sometimes working part-time during the term. They can use the earnings for their tuition and living expenses. But the students who have scholarship cannot be allowed to do.
American Education -- Two kinds of master’s degree: 1. A dissertation paper + some credits 2. More credits without dissertation paper.(19)
Texas -- Texas is the second most populous and the second-largest of the 50 states in the USA, and the largest state in the 48 contiguous United States. --Texas has an area of 696,200 km2, and a growing population of 25.7 million residents.
Texas -- Houston is the largest city in Texas and the fourth-largest in the United States, while San Antonio is the second largest in the state and seventh largest in the United States. Dallas–Fort Worth and Greater Houston are the fourth and fifth largest United States metropolitan areas, respectively.
Texas -- Other major cities include El Paso and Austin—the state capital. Texas is nicknamed the Lone Star State to signify Texas as a former independent republic and as a reminder of the state's struggle for independence from Mexico. The "Lone Star" can be found on the Texas state flag and many buildings.
Texas --One Texas industry after the Civil War was cattle. Texas is associated with the image of the cowboy. --The state's economic fortunes changed in the early 20th century, when oil discoveries initiated an economic boom in the state. --With strong investments in universities, Texas developed a diversified economy and high tech industry in the mid-20th century.
Texas -- As of 2010 it shares the top of the list of the most Fortune 500 companies with California at 57. --no state tax -- The state's Bill of Rights is much larger than its federal counterpart, and has provisions unique to Texas.

Texas State Capitol --The Texas State Capitol is located in Austin, and is the fourth building to be the house of Texas state government in Austin. It houses the chambers of the Texas Legislature and the office of the governor of Texas. It was originally designed in 1881
Houston -- Houston is the fourth-largest city in the United States of America, and the largest city in the state of Texas. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, the city had a population of 2.1 million people. -- Greater Houston is the fifth largest United States metropolitan area.
Houston -- Houston became the home of the Texas Medical Center—the world's largest concentration of healthcare and research institutions—and NASA's Johnson Space Center, where the Mission Control Center is located.
Houston --Four separate and distinct state universities are located in Houston. The University of Houston is a nationally recognized Tier One research university. ----Several private institutions of higher learning are located in the city. Rice University is widely recognized as one of the top twenty universities.
San Antonio --San Antonio is the second largest City in Texas State and the 7th in the USA with the population of 1,330,000. --德州第二大城市：圣安东尼奥：133万人，全美国排名第7。
Dallas-Fort Worth -- Dallas is the ninth most populous city in the USA and the third most populous city in the state of Texas. The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is the largest metropolitan area in the South and fourth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. Dallas had a population of 1,197,816 in 2010, according to the United States Census Bureau.
