With 'A Novel Idea' I was reading as fast as possible to see what happens next and i finished in three hours, but with 'French Kiss' I read a few pages at a time and it took me over a week because the time Alexa and Holly spent together in Paris seemed so great and so real. I didn't want the book to end! I can't wait to see what the girls will be up to in LA! I dont want to spoiler the book so I'm not gonna say what all happens... basically it's Alexa Holly's adventures in Paris (duh)

  2. but you read it and unlike other chick-lit it's very realistic (with a little luck and lots of spunk) anything in the book could happen to you! Especially the feelings and emotions! The girls have their hearts broken and your heart breaks too! The girls fall in love and so do you! You see Holly's point of view but you also see Alexa's! they are both right and they are both wrong and it's justs so accurate to life! Even the bit characters have nuance and character and depth! One day I will write as good as this!!!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A fun guilty pleasureBy Rachael SteinFriends once again, Alexa St. Laurent and Holly Jacobson couldn't be more thrilled for their last spring break of high school. Alexa is off to Paris to celebrate her one year anniversary with her boyfriend Diego, and Holly is going to England for an international track meet. Nothing could be better, right? Wrong. Early on, Holly hurts her ankle and is set to be benched for the rest of the week, and Alexa's romantic getaway turns sour when she and Diego break up and she is robbed. A true friend, Holly sneaks off to help Alexa in Paris, and the two girls decide to salvage what's left of their spring break and just have fun. But in the City of Love, Alexa and Holly just might be in over their heads.Friends Alexa and Holly are at it again in their next scandalous adventure. French Kiss picks up a year after its prequel South Beach leaves off, and although there are several details that are carried over, French Kiss is still easy to understand on its own. I enjoyed this Parisian vacation as much as if not more than Alexa and Holly's South Beach excursion. There were the shopping and clubbing excitements of course, which, coupled with the international factor, made this novel a glamorous read. Better yet though, both Alexa's and Holly's characters grew. Holly's growth wasn't very dramatic; it was an extension of her growth from South Beach into a more independent and self aware young woman. Alexa, on the other hand, experiences a complete paradigm shift when she becomes the victim of a player; it shows Alexa's more vulnerable side and makes her easier to sympathize with. Although it was unrealistic how the girls manage to avoid all real trouble except the romantic kind, I did thoroughly enjoy reading French Kiss.Readers who enjoyed South Beach by Aimee Friedman will also want to check out its sequel, as will fans of Kissing Snowflakes by Abby Sher and Faking 19 by Alyson Nol.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. The perfect guilty pleasure for springBy LitPick Student Book ReviewsAlexa and Holly are friends who happen to be part of two different social groups. Alexa and her boyfriend Diego are celebrating their aniversary in Paris while Holly is going to England for a track meet. Holly is devastated when she hurt her ankle and is unable to run for the rest of the meet, but then she gets a phone call from Alexa begging her to come to Paris. Taking advantage of the opportunity, she goes over and spends a guilt-filled week there, hoping she won't get caught by her coach and worrying about her relationship with her boyfriend, Tyler. Still caught up in her fight with Tyler, Holly catches the eye of Pierre, Alexa's cousin. Meanwhile, Alexa happens to meet Xavier, a famous artist. Between sightseeing, shopping and hot dates, Alexa and Holly learn the meaning of friendship and love.I thought that this book was a fun read. French Kiss reminded me a little of Gossip Girl, and while the story is not the same, fans of Gossip Girl should pick this one up. This is the perfect book to get away from real life for a while. The fact that the story takes place in Paris makes it so much more fun to read. This is the perfect guilty pleasure for spring. I'm looking forward to reading the prequel to this, South Beach, next.Reviewed by Flamingnet Book Reviews[...]Preteen, teen, and young adult book reviews and recommendations Get your drama on as the girls from the NEW YORK TIMES bestseller, SOUTH BEACH, strut back into the limelight in another sizzling spring break tale of romance, friendship, and crushes gone bad.Two beautiful girls. One sexy city. Endless opportunities for l'amour. When ALEXA ST. LAURENT falls in love, she falls hard. Can she keep her cool after meeting a French guy who's too good to be true and too hard to resist? For HOLLY JACOBSON, being in love with her boyfriend, Tyler, is as natural as breathing. But there's no denying that Alexa's Parisian cousin Pierre takes Holly's breath away....On a whirlwind rendezvous in Paris, the City of Love, Alexa and Holly are about to discover that everything sounds sexier in French. From School Library JournalGrade 9 UpParisian-born Alexa St. Laurent moved to New Jersey because of her father's job. She has convinced her boyfriend to fly to Paris for spring break. They fight; Alexa feels that Diego is behaving like a tourist and, insulted, he leaves. She goes to stay with her cousins and calls her estranged friend Holly to join her. Holly is in England with her high school track team for an international meet. Of course, Holly slips away to Paris. She and Alexa have a wonderful time talking, shopping, and eyeing glamorous men. Their friendship back on a steady keel, Holly helps Alexa when Alexa's much-older male interest proves to be unworthy of her devotion. Sensible, conscientious Holly is an excellent and strong secondary character who endured Alexa's snubs and maintained a sense of her own self-worth when her friend deserted her for the in-crowd. Friedman skillfully depicts teenage bravado and fearlessness balanced against a lack of worldly ways and knowledge. A charming story of friendship and growing up.Alice DiNizo, Plainfield Public Schools, NJ Copyright Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
