Concept: IP Address Whenever you are connected to internet, and go online to send an email, to surf, o shop, to chat or to read something, to watch videos or to listen to music, a request from your machine is generated, sent to the desired destination, the request is noted by that source where the request is sent. On receiving the request, those websites, then track down the IP address from which the request was made, and sends back a reply with the related answer to the requester. • http://www.myipaddress.host/

Since they give you access to the web through their network, allocating the IP address is their job. There are certain norms and standards followed to connect your computer to the network. These norms are a combination of your hardwired system and your Internet Service provider.

  6. Linux • Launch a terminal window • Once you are in the window, type ‘ipconfig’ or ‘ipaddr show’ or enter the command ‘hostname –I(capital i). • All of these commands will display your IP address, you can use either of these commands.

Mac OS • From the left-hand corner of your screen, find the system preferences option, click on it. • Select the icon labeled ‘Network’. • From the options that pop up, select the icons with green dots in front of them. • After clicking on one of those icons, the IP address of your system will be displayed.

  8. iPhone, iPad, iPod • Go to settings app • From the list of options, select the ‘Wifi’ option • From the box so displayed, tap on the button labeled ‘i’ • A pop up box will appear which will display the IP address of the device you are holding.

  9. Android Phone, Android Tablets • Go to settings app • From the options, select the wireless controls option. • A box with a label of Wi-Fi settings • Tap on the network which you are using. • A new window will appear on the screen displaying the IP address.
