9.8: Federal System Connects the Nation and the States 1. Why Federal System? A: Framers wanted a strong federal (national) government and at the same time have the states retain significant powers. 2. Commerce Clause Power? A: Gives the national government the power to regulate interstate commerce (trade between states). 3. Advantages to states sharing a common market: A: Allows good & resources to flow more easily across the country, and large businesses could cross state lines. Also, creates a single national economy.
