How has this been possible at Kidderminster College’s LRC? INNOVATIVE LRC MANAGER Jill Edwards decided about five years ago that Kidderminster College needed a Learning Resource Facilitator.
HOW DOES IT WORK? • The Learning Facilitator is:- • Very proactive – to the point of being annoying • Very enthusiastic - to the point of being annoying • Very keen and excited about i-skills – to the point of being annoying • Word of mouth – very chatty – to the point of being annoying
WHAT HAPPENS TO A NEW STUDENT WHEN THEY ARRIVE AT KIDDERMINSTER COLLEGE’S LRC? • Induction which is subject specific based on the Cephalonian method • During first half term they have an i-skills session • During their course they have assignment workshops
LRC INDUCTION QUESTIONS If I popped to McDonald’s at lunchtime can I eat my Big Mac and diet coke in the LRC? If I dropped my memory stick into my bubble bath could I buy a new one from the LRC?
i-skills • How to tackle an assignment • Information sources • Skimming, Scanning and Summarising • Bibliographies • Referencing • Plagiarism
ASSIGNMENT WORKSHOPS • Booked by a tutor after a consultation • LRF has a copy of the assignment • Last 1-3 hours • Offered to all curriculum areas
