What is fengshui * • Fengshui is the art of analyzing the impact of an environment in relation to human experience • The goal of fengshui consulting is to create a comfortable and favored living and/or working environment for individuals a) Living environment—Home fengshui b) Working environment—Business fengshui
What is not fengshui * • “Culture superstition”: fortune cookie, decorating the room with “good-luck” objects including crystals, little stones, all kinds of doohickeys and figurines, etc • Displaying arts, sacred geometry • Auspicious numbers • Spiritual practice, rituals, religion

Eight Trigrams * Trigrams are the basis of Eight-Mansion system Almost everything has a trigram reference Each direction is governed by one trigram
Qi ( 气, Chi)* • Qi is the central concept in fengshui. Fengshui is about analyzing and harnessing Qi • In scientific terms, the concept that has the closest meaning to Qi is field • Qi could affect a person positively or negatively • In Eight-Mansion system, there are 8 types of Qi that reside in 8 directional sectors. • In Eight-Mansion system, the sitting direction of the house determines what type of Qi in each directional sector ( assuming ur house is clean and tidy )
Eight types of Qi Tian yi ( heavenly doctor ): improve wealth, good for health, good luck in general Fu wei ( stability ): calming and stabilizing effect, easier to focus at this sector Yian nian ( longevity ): improve relationship and networking Sheng qi ( life generating ): improve reputation and status ( effect not prominent ) Wu gui ( Five ghost ): illness, wealth loss, fraudulent activity, all kinds of misfortunes, bad luck in general Jue Ming ( life endangering ): accidents, injuries, ( effect not prominent ) Liu sha ( Six killing ): conflict and dispute in relationships Huo hai ( Mishaps ): small annoying issues

Application of 8-mansion Use Compass to measure the sitting of the house to determine house trigram Use 8-mansion reference table and house trigram to determine Qi map Do the layout or make appropriate arrangements based on Qi map Use the birth year of the target person to determine life trigram Use life trigram to determine orientation

How to determine life trigram? Life trigram determined by birth year Male: 1982 1 + 9 + 8 + 2 = 20 2 + 0 = 2 11 – 2 = 9 Li Female: 1982 1 + 9 + 8 + 2 = 20 2 + 0 = 2 2 + 4 = 6 Qian

fengshui tips in bedroom Bedroom in one of the four auspicious directional sectors—fu wei, tian yi, yan nian, sheng qi Head of the bed not under the window, air conditioner, or near the door or heat No hangings in the ceilings on top of the bed No TV set near the bed No mirror facing the bed Bedroom cannot be too big, no complicated setups in the bedroom Set up the orientation of the bed to be one of the four auspicious orientation of you. Close the window or blinder when you sleep
fengshui tips in study room and living room • Study room and living room in one of the four auspicious directional sectors—fu wei, tian yi, yan nian, sheng qi • Back should not be exposed to the door or window • No hangings on top of where you sit • Enough sunlight in study room • Set up the orientation of the chair/couch to be one of the four auspicious orientation of you.
Negative fengshui features from exterior 天斩煞 ( Tian Zhan ) Facing the narrow space ( slit ) formed between two high buildings 反弓路 (Fan Gong ) A bow-shaped road with huge traffic flow curving towards the target building 枪煞/路冲 ( Qiang ) At the end of T-shaped road 尖角煞/刀煞 ( Jian Jiao ) Facing sharp edges of other buildings or constructions from any directions 阴邪煞 ( Yin Xie ) The target building is near the hospital or funeral parlor or whatever deserted constructions. 电磁煞 ( Dian Ci ) The target building is near high-voltage tower, electric pylon, telegraph pole or lightning rod, etc 污煞 ( Wu ) The target building is near the factories or garbage dump or gas stations or sewage or there are garbage packed around the building. 官门煞( Guan Men ) The target building is near the police office, court, military camp, prison or government building, etc 声煞( Sheng ) It’s too loud outside the building, could be from constructions or kindergartens. 光煞( Guang ) Strong beam reflected by the glass of the buildings near the target building 孤峰煞 ( Gu Feng ) The target building is way too taller than all other buildings surrounding it. 压迫( Ya Po ) The target building is way too lower than all other buildings surrounding it. 三煞 ( San Sha ) Construction or main door at the yearly “San-Sha” spot of the building 五黄煞 ( Wu Huang ) Construction at the yearly “Wu-Huang” spot of the building 道具煞 ( Dao Ju ) Facing Feng Shui products from other buildings
Fengshui remedies Block—fengshui consultant uses this method all the time Absorb—usually requires some amount of space Fight—only apply under special circumstances, usually only used in business fengshui Escape—sometimes the most effective way Case-by-case remedy
