  2. Physical Security Definition Physical Security is primarily concerned with restricting physical access by unauthorized people (intruders) to controlled facilities.
  3. Perfection- The Impossible Dream Physical Security is an overhead expense that rarely can be tied to any return on investment for the dollars being spent. Controls are imperfect and do minimize risks but can not eliminate all risks. The best approach to strong physical security is to apply the principles of defense in depth using combinations of overlapping controls.
  4. Defense In Depth Deter potential intruders (e.g. warning signs and perimeter markings); Delay, frustrate and ideally prevent intrusion attempts (e.g. strong walls, door locks and safes); Detect intrusions and monitor/record intruders (e.g. intruder alarms and CCTV systems);
  5. Defense In Depth distinguish authorized from unauthorized people (e.g. cardkeys and identification badges) trigger appropriate incident responses (e.g. by security guards and police).
