  1. I recently learnt that McDonalds calls frequent buyers of their products "Heavy users". I have heard users of alcohol or drugs are called "heavy users", but how can a corporation like McDonalds refer regular buyers as heavy users. Food Corporations use deceptive advertising and labeling to lure consumers. The food industry often uses misleading terms and words because they don't want us to know a lot of things. You can buy healthy food if you understand the common grocery facts. Following are few commonly misunderstood food facts. ™ Artificial food color: Do you know that the color blue can lower your appetite? Colors can influence the hunger and appetite factor. Many researchers have come to this conclusion and blue color is even used in weight loss programs. Food color is used to convert bland-looking food appetizing. But, petroleum-based coloring agents can cause conditions like food allergies, ADHD and brain cell damage. Switch to healthy alternatives like organic food. Natural vs. Organic: The food companies want you to think that the food labels natural and organic are same. The true story is: they are not same! While the label organic has strict requirements, owing to which organic food products are usually costlier but at the same time healthy. The natural label is not regulated by a fixed set of requirements. So, natural label is manipulated by manufacturers to gain profit. Cholesterol: You might have seen cooking oil ads with information about 0% cholesterol. You were not told the complete truth because cholesterol occurs only in animal products like eggs, butter, milk, meat, etc. but plant based products like cooking oil do not contain cholesterol. The Serving Size: Check the serving size in the nutrition fact section of a grocery product. The product manufacturers don't lie, but deceive by showing per calorie per serving or unit. Grocery offers: Most supermarkets and retailers run regular grocery offers to enhance sales and to attract more customers. Make sure to check online for the actual prices before you buy the products. The prices are put up rather than down. The Ingredient List: Longer ingredient list doesn't mean that a product is healthy. Most ingredients in the long list are chemical additives, various sugars, taste enhancers or preservatives. Go for products with a smaller list of ingredients. Wheat Bread: Wheat bread is not whole click here wheat bread. Whole wheat breads are made from whole grain, which contains more fiber and nutritional elements. Arm yourself with knowledge and pledge to spread awareness for the well-being of everyone around you. If more people are aware about the marketing tricks and deception used by corporation to attract customers, they will be forced to provide better products. Stay informed, stay healthy.   2. the safety of these products is at an all-time high. And it's not just concern over whether these foods are safe to eat. There are serious concerns about how these GE foods are grown and raised, how they're kept separate from conventional and organic food supplies, and what their very existence means for our planet in the long run. One concern voiced by knowledgeable environmentalists, politicians, and organic farmers, among others, is the containment of GE crops. That is, when growing GE corn and alfalfa, for example, there are no regulations in place to prevent the natural spread of the GE seeds. Thus, nearby farmland growing organic corn or alfalfa becomes cross-contaminated with GE materials simply by proximity and natural air-born seed spreading. Once the conventional or organic crops are contaminated by the GE crops, there is no way to separate them. With GE and conventional or organic crops intermingled, there is no way for consumers to know what ultimately ends up in their markets and in their bodies. A consumer purchasing organic foods may easily end up consuming a GE product under the current system. As well, given the lack of long-term data available, there is no way to know the true safety of these foods. Of course, there's also a significant potential economic impact. According to a recent naturalnews.com article discussing the proliferation of GE corn, modified to more efficiently produce ethanol, "For once, natural health advocates are voicing the same concerns as the corn industry. The Center for Food Safety says that bio-fuel corn 'will inevitably contaminate food-grade corn (foodsafetynews.com/2011/...) and could well trigger substantial rejection in our corn export markets, hurting farmers.'" Aside from safety and economics, the biggest issue with GE is that there are literally no labeling requirements. That means consumers have no control over what they choose to buy and eat because GE foods do not currently have to be labeled to indicate they are anything other than conventional or organic products. And it doesn't stop at produce, either. Buying organic meat is certainly a good option for those trying to avoid the hormones, steroids, and antibiotics (among other things) found in conventional beef. But without strict regulations on GE crops, there is no way to know if even the organic beef is from a cow raised on GE crops. Beyond meat, dairy cows being fed hay (which is dried alfalfa, one of the crops most easily cross-contaminated by GE seeds) will produce milk that, under current regulations, can no longer be considered organic (opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/02/15/why-arent-g-m-o-foods-labeled/?hp).
