Experience at UF COM/JaxBefore • Most individuals went along not really caring one way or the other • Many felt that they have been in practice for years and did not need the training • Some unhappy that they had to do another “mandatory training” • A few excited and thought training would be useful
Experience at UF COM/JaxAfter • Most participants saw training was helpful • Some who were initially “upset” that they had to do training – actually came up after the meeting or at various times to various trainers to say how useful they found the training • Many reported that they were using some parts of training • PEARLS seem to be the most popular
PCCC Training at UF COM/Jax • Executive decision by leadership to participate and train all faculty • Mandatory • Most faculty given time off from clinical duties • No break in departmental and divisional budgets
PCCCC Training by UF COM/Jax Trainers • Eight faculty were trained as trainer in October/November 2010 • Four senior and four junior faculty members • Trained all UF faculty and senior leadership • Trained contracted physicians at Shands • Trained some Baptist physicians in preparation for Baptist participating in the effort
PCCCC Training by UF COM/J Trainers • Some departments included all their trainees • Trained Chief Residents • Train all incoming residents during orientation • Shortened version (2 hours) of training for residents
Outcome and Future Plans • Evaluations by the participants were always in the “excellent” range • Patient satisfaction showed a small uptick – however there are also other initiatives in place • Training new faculty • Ongoing training for ones already trained • Sustainability??
PCCC Training by UF COM/Jax Trainers • Advocated with other organizations to participate • Presented the concept at three Universities • Presented at two international conferences • Presented at the SEGA • Submitted a manuscript to Journal of the American Medical Association • Editing a book of PCCC
