  3. The Democratic party Samuel J. Tilden Party- Democratic Home state-New York Running mate- Thomas Andrews Hendricks Electoral vote- 184 States carried- 18 Popular vote- 4,288,546 Percentage- 51.0%

  4. Result Tilden won the popular but Hayes won the electoral collage. Hayes was ruled the winner. This election ended up as one of the most controversial.

  6. Why was the compromise made? • To settle future election disputes such as the election of 1876 • To withdraw soldiers from south • The compromise successfully set the south on their own and let them start as a part as the U.S. Why was the compromise made?
