  2. Siege of Vicksburg • Date: May 18 - July 4, 1863 • Estimated Casualties 19,223 • Location : Mississippi, Vicksburg • Commanders for Union: Maj. General Ulysses S. Grant and his units is Blair , Thayer ,Logan , Ranson , J.E Smith A.J Smith, Carr Hovey ,Lauran ,Hovey. • For south: Lt. General John C. Pemberton M.L. Smith, Forney , Bowen, Stevenson. • At the siege at Vicksburg the Union soldiers attacked retreating confederacy solders who took cover at Vicksburg the battle lasted about three mouths. They surrounded them and lunched small attacks every so often.
