Use of technologies As a teacher of young children (birth to age 8) you need to have a thoughtful, well-informed position on uses of technologies of learning in general specifically of what to do with computers.
Questions • Will you have a computer in your classroom? • Where will it be? • What software will you have on it? • Will you allow your students to surf the web? • Will you restrict the websites they can visit? • How will you support (and control) your children’s computer use?
Computer for teachers Computers are used by teachers as well as students. You also have to continue to develop your own computer skills. The ability to use the computer and the internet to access information is more important each year. Until, that is, the computer gets replaced by the next piece of information technology.
Educational use of computers This lesson is focused on educational uses of computers for young children. we will give you links to seven websites with readings and information that will get you started thinking about how you will use computes in your classroom.
Some of the sites are links to single articles, others to sites with multiple subpages. Read through them. Follow links to other sites. And then take the quiz that you’ll find below. You might want to read the quiz questions first, so that as you read through the sites you’ll find the answers.

Assignment Quiz: 1. What is meant by “open-ended” software. Give an example of software for young children that is “open-ended” and an example of software that is “closed” (for example, that emphasizes “drill and practice)
