St. Augustine, Florida Visiting “America’s Oldest City” April 5th -6th
“The words printed here are just concepts. You must go through the experiences” .– Saint Augustine Fourth Graders in Florida study Florida History as part of their Social Studies component. We will be studying Florida as a whole, but will be taking time in December and January to focus on St. Augustine and the East Coast of Florida to help each student get the very most out of their trip. This is not just a “field trip” – this is an authentic, hands on learning experience for each and every child.
Day One Agenda • DAY 1 (THU-April 5th) • 5:30am(CST) Meet at the school. 6:00 am(CST) Depart aboard deluxe motor coach. • Transfer to St. Augustine. Picnic lunch en route. (Students should bring own lunch). • Meet your guide at the Visitor Information Center in St. Augustine. • Visit Flagler Presbyterian Church. • Enjoy a narrated trolley tour of St. Augustine. • Visit the Old Jail. • Tour the Castillo de San Marcos (the Old Fort). • Dinner at Barnacle Bill’sRestaurant. • Visit Ripley’s Believe-It-Or-Not Museum! Ghost Tour led by local interpreters. • Hotel Check in at the Holiday Inn & Suites.
Day Two Agenda - • DAY 2 (FRI-April 6th) • Buffet Breakfast at Hotel. • Hotel check-out/load luggage. • Tour the Old Florida Museum. • Students will be divided into groups and each group will tour three of the four hands-on museums, including the Timucua Indian Village, the Spanish Village, the Archeology Program or the Florida Pioneer Village. • Visit the Spanish Military Hospital Museum where you will learn first-hand of the “advanced” medical practices of the Spanish in Colonial Times. • Lunch with time for shopping on St. George Street. • Depart for home with/rest stop en route. Arrive at school around 7:00pm(CST).
Chaperones • We would like to take as many chaperones as are willing to participate on the trip. • We cannot allow younger siblings to accompany their brothers and sisters to St. Augustine. • Chaperones will be expected to room with their child and two other children. • Chaperones are responsible for their learning group throughout the entire trip.
Tour Price • $245.00 per student ~ quad occupancy • $275.00 per student ~ quad occupancy • ***There will be no double occupancy rooms this year. {based on a minimum of 35 paying students per coach}
Fundraising Opportunities • We are considering fundraisers to help offset the cost of this trip: a movie night on the lawn, spaghetti dinner hosted by fourth graders, restaurant nights where a portion of their nightly gross will be donated to the grade group. • Teachers will not be planning fundraisers. They will be lead by parents. • Do you know any business owners who would be interested in helping out in any way? • We are looking for children who need sponsored! We want every child who wants to go to be able to go! • Families who participate in the fundraiser will be able to have profits applied to their trip costs. Families who choose not to participate will not have profits applied to their trip costs.
Payment Installments • 12/2 $100 ~ 1st payment and Tour Enrollment Form due each participant • 2/3 $100 ~ 2nd payment due each participant • 3/2 - Balance ~ due each participant, Fundraising money will be applied to the balance.
