J2 Threat Condition Force Protection Condition • (U) General Weather: While weather patterns continue to improve, temperatures will remain near or well below freezing. Some patches of scattered ice remain in the waters in the port. Troops will need to be closely monitored for cold weather injuries, especially during early morning and evening hours. • (U) Water Conditions: Ice does form on the top layer of the water near the shore. Cargo ships, dependent on the size, arrange for tug boats to assist in moving the ice in order to access the port • (U)Road Conditions: Roads may be hazardous at times due to snow, ice, or reduced visibility particularly secondary roads and intersections. • (U) Criminal Threat: Soldiers should be made aware of a group of individuals of Samoan Nationality playing the “Knockout Game” in and around Anchorage. J2 – Weather 261230MAR14: WEATHER ASSESSMENT Strait of Juan de Fuca/Strait of Georgia (SP): Strong wind warning is in effect IVO the Strait of Georgia with Winds E 15-25kts. decreasing to 10-15kts near midnight with seas W 5-7ft. Conditions continue through Friday with winds E 10-20kts. Saturday winds E 5-15kts. with seas W 2-7ft. Wind E 10-15kts Friday with swells 5-7ft. Assessment: Moderate weather conditions should cause vessels to operate just below threshold, but not expected to significantly impact vessel operations. Queen Charlotte Sound (CP1): Conditions IVO CP1 are projected to be moderate with Winds SW 15-25kts. Seas are moderate at a Sea state of 4, SW 4-8ft. Conditions are expected to be Rough Friday with winds SW at 20-30kts and seas SW 15-17ft. Calm weather conditions are expected Saturday through Sunday, with winds at S 10-20kts. and seas S to SW 5-10ft. Asessment: Vessel crew is advised to exercise caution as some areas are predicted to experience winds up to SW 30kts. and seas S to SW 10-15ft. Cape Suckling (CP2): Conditions IVO CP2 are expected to be moderate today with gusts up to N 30kts and variable winds at mainly N 10kts and seas S between 5-10ft. Conditions are projected to be moderate Thursday through Sunday with winds NE 10kts and seas at S 2-6ft. Assessment: These conditions may slightly limit Vessel operations Wednesday, but are not predicted to significantly impact operations Thursday through Friday. Gulf of Alaska: The conditions IVO the Gulf of Alaska are expected to be moderate today with winds N 15kts and seas N 4-8ft. The forecasts for Thursday through Sunday are moderate with winds NE at 10-15kts and the seas E 3-6ft. Assessment: These conditions should not significantly limit Vessel operations.
