Testing • Approximately 20 min for completion of test • Listening can be given in appropriate age groups. • Speaking is always given individually.
Wrap up • Score the test. • Scanand email the log sheet results to rosaelia Chavez in be/esl office. • Administer itbs if applicable.

Also provide, HLS date, enrollment date, number of years in u.s. schools and telpas scores if previously taken. *** THE HOME CAMPUS MAY RECOMMEND THE NEWCOMER PROGRAM…. BUT ONLY THE ESL SPECIALIST CAN QUALIFY A RECENT IMMIGRANT FOR THE NEWCOMER ACADEMY. ***Do not contact Ector/PHS or send parent to enroll child at NEWCOMER ACADEMY. The esl specialist will NOTIFY THE SENDING CAMPUS AND THE RECEIVING CAMPUS AFTER SHE HAS REVIEWED THE OLPT SCORES, YEARS IN U.S. SCHOOLS, AND TELPAS SCORES IF AVAILABLE.
Since you scored a 4 or 5 on both the listening and speaking parts of the OLPT, now it’s time to take the ITBS.
ITBS • When to administer – • Student scores 4 or 5 on listening and 4 or 5 on listening • How to get it • Contact Ms. Dunlap at the testing warehouse 68529 • Who can administer it • Any certified teacher • Things to remember • Testing takes time!! • Each section is timed and will take most of the day to administer • Scoring takes time!! • Get it administered and returned to testing at least 48 hours in advance of LPAC meeting

Speaking • Student and teacher face each other • Student has LAS Links student book. • Teacher has Student Answer Book (pg 1-5). • Read instructions aloud. • TEACHER marks answers in Student Answer Book. • C – correct I – incorrect NR – no response • TEACHER transcribes student story. • Write down everything the student says for the story (pg5). • May record student story and then transcribe it later.
listening • Student has BOTH LAS Links student book (pg 4-9) & Student Answer Book (pg 7). • Teacher has LAS Links examiner’s guide (pg18- pg 19). • Teacher plays CD and can follow along in examiner’s guide.
scoring • Teacher has LAS Links Testing Log Sheet, Student Profile Sheet, Student Answer Book & Interpretation Guide. • Use Student Answer Book to complete the Speaking “Number Correct” section 2 of the Student Profile Sheet. • Use the Interpretation Guide (pg 119---) to score the listening portion of the Student Answer Book. • Transfer the listening scores to the Listening “Number Correct” section 2 of the Student Profile sheet.
… scoring … • Transfer the “Total Speaking” & “Total Listening” (section 2) to the “Overall Score” section 3 of the Student Profile Sheet. • Use the Interpretation Guide (pg 98--) to complete the speaking and listening ‘Proficiency Levels’ column. • Transfer the “Total Speaking” & “Total Listening” (section 2) to the “Oral” section 4 of the Student Profile Sheet. • Use the Interpretation Guide (pg 99--) to identify the ‘Oral Scale Score’ box. • Write the level of the scale score above the ‘Oral Scale Score’ box.
… scoring • Evaluate the individual speaking and listening score to determine if ITBS test is necessary or if student qualifies for the Newcomer program. • Comments to be written in the ‘Comments’ section may include: “qualifies for newcomer program, qualifies for ESL, ITBS needed or Spanish testing recommended.” • Use Student Profile Sheet to complete the LAS Links testing log sheet. • Scan and email LAS Links Testing Log Sheet to Rosaelia Chavez at the BE/ESL office.
Itbs testing procedures The score on the LAS Links will determine if the ITBS will be administered. If the student is supposed to take the ITBS, follow the procedures below: • Bilingual/ESL teachers will notify the Campus Test Coordinator of the need for an ITBS test at least 24 hours before the administration of the test. • The Campus Test Coordinator may contact the Testing Warehouse by phone (456-8529) or by email to Cathy Dunlap, Debbie Reedy or Tracy Taylor asking for the ITBS test, making sure to include the grade level for the student. • The CTC or another certified person from the campus may pick up the ITBS instruction booklet, testing booklet and answer document from the Testing Warehouse at 910 N. Lee between 8:00 and 12:00 and 1:00 and 5:00 within an hour of the request. • Administration of the ITBS should be carried out by a certified professional following the detailed instructions in the instruction booklet. • Once the test has been administered to the student, a certified person should return all testing materials, including instruction booklet, test booklet, and answer document, to the Testing Warehouse for scoring. • Testing personnel will notify the campus of a student’s score once it is received. Receipt of score results can take up to 48 hours, depending on the Riverside company..

Identification and placement • OLPT testing must be completed within first 5 days of enrollment. • All testing results and previous district documentation must be available for the lpac meeting which must be held before end of the 20 day LPAC window.
Filing • LAS Links Student Answer Book and Profile Sheet must be filed in the orange ESL folder inside the student’s permanent folder on the right side. • ITBS, if administered, is filed in the orange ESL folder on the right side after LPAC. • LAS Links Testing Log Sheet is filed in teacher’s personal files after use in the LPAC. • http://www.ectorcountyisd.org//Domain/14(Bilingual/ESL Dept. on ECISD website) Click on “LPAC folder arrangement Video.” Enter same district log-in (username and Password) as directed.
