1. 1 PRESENTATION DEVELOPING PROCESSES OF PAKISTAN STANDARDS 10th February, 2011 by: Engr. Mohammad Ashraf Palari Assistant Director (Electrical)

2. 2 Objectives / Functions To establish, formulate, adopt/adapt the National Standards through Technical Committees and subsequent approval of National Standard Committee in the vital interest of the country. Harmonization of standards with International Standards to meet the requirements of WTO/TBT.

3. 3 Standards Development Centre of PSQCA is being entrusted with the responsibility of laying down National Standards on Electrical Items . So far around 6000 standards have been established besides direct adoption of over 16000 ISO Standards and above 6000 IEC Standards. Some of the Pakistan standards have been brought under mandatory certification .

4. 4 FORMULATION OF PAKISTAN STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS (PSS)

5. 5 Electrotechnical National Standards Committee The work of the Division shall be controlled by Electrotechnical National Standards Committee appointed by Board of Directors. Electrotechnical National Standards Committee shall be constituted from the representative of the respective interests of users, manufacturers, technologists, government departments. The functions of the Electrotechnical National Standards Committee are: i) Creation of Technical Committees and appointment of the members. ii) Securitization of proposals for work. iii) Endorsement of Standard Specifications formulated by the Technical Committees.

6. 6 TECHNICAL COMMITTEES Technical Committees shall be appointed by the Electrotechnical National Standards Committee for the preparation of particular standards or group of standards referred to them by the Electrotechnical National Standards Committee. The Chairman of the Technical Committee appointed by the Electrotechnical National Standards Committee. The functions of the Technical Committee are: i) Formulation of the Standard Specifications forwarded by the Electrotechnical National Standards Committee. ii) Endorsement of Standard Specifications by the Electrotechnical National Standards Committee.

12. 12 PAKISTAN CO-ORDINATION WITH IEC Pakistan is a member of IECEE from September 2008. This will help us to inter act with international bodies, conformity assessment. However PSQCA is a member of IEC/ISO since many years. PSQCA participates in IEC through balloting and by giving comments on different draft Standards. Moreover PSQCA is a Permanent Member in 66 IEC Technical Committees.
