There were thirty-four men all told in the shore party (there were additional ship-board men who did not go ashore). He took with him both dogs and horses (Mongolian ponies, used to Siberian winters, and successfully used by Shackle ton in 1908). He also took mechanical tractors, though these were experimental and of limited use
With him he brought ponies and experimental motor sleds. His crew had canvas tents. They did not have very good clothes for the harsh winter. These days we have top of the line snow suits. And heat retaining tents. And minus 0 sleeping bags.
