  2. AIMS OF TODAYS SESSION • To introduce the environmental strategies used in National parks, AONB’s, Country Parks, Long distance footpaths and Heritage coasts

  3. OBJECTIVES • By the end of today I would we need to have grasped and understanding of National Parks, AONB’s, Country Parks, Footpaths and Heritage Coasts

  4. Introduction • National parks: “Designated area of high landscape value in which developments are controlled” • AONB’s: “Literally Areas of outstanding natural beauty, placed under conservation acts for protection”

  5. Introduction Cont………. • Country Parks “Open areas of natural surround, managed and subject to lenient environmental legislation” • Long distance footpaths “Literally long distance paths, usually of historical significance”

  6. Introduction Cont………………... • Heritage Coasts “Coastal areas ear marked for historical and environmental importance, these come under strict environmental protection directives”

  7. Examples of These • BBNP • South Wales Heritage Coast • Margam Park • Offa’s Dyke Path • Kenfig Burrows ( also a SSSI )
