THE ASL DEPARTMENT NOW • 60 sections of ASL classes every year • Four Levels of ASL skill development • Classes in Deaf culture • Special social and cultural events to expose students to the Deaf World • ASL proficiency evaluations
THE ASL DEPT OF THE FUTURE • Goal: Upgrade and expand curriculum and create a major in ASL/Deaf Studies • Goal: Establish new certificate program for ASL Interpreters
THE ASL DEPT OF THE FUTURE • Goal: Increase the number of full-time faculty from one instructor to three • Goal: Establish a new ASL language lab to provide students with high-tech and personal resources for learning ASL

AN ASL MINI-LESSON • What if YOU met a Deaf person at SRJC? • “Hello.” • “I’m a member of the board.” • “Nice to meet you.”
STAFF • One full-time ASL instructor and twelve adjunct instructors • All instructors are highly fluent in ASL • Eleven instructors are Deaf. Students are challenged to use ASL for all classroom communication.
