NSF Goals for IPY Education • Leverage the appeal of the polar regions to teach people of all ages about the relevance of polar regions to the earth system • Engage and educate diverse and underrepresented communities • Attract and develop the next generation of polar researchers • Enhance and create educational resources that impact a broad audience • Provide research experiences for teachers, graduate and undergraduate students

IPY E&O Funding Estimate • ~$1-2 million from OPP in FY06 • Flat funding likely throughout IPY • If IPY funds are requested, no sooner than FY07 • IPY Solicitation re-issue is possible • Co-funding among NSF Directorates/Divisions • Important to apply to the solicitation that fits the project • Co-funding among agencies • Consider project fit with other agencies
