Building A Circuit! • Materials: D Battery, Piece of copper wire, and small (flashlight) light bulb • Procedure: Coil the wire around the bottom of the bulb. Place the other end of wire on bottom of battery (negative end) and the light bulb at the top (positive end). • What happens????
We have created light!! • How else can we create this circuit?? • Try to find other ways to make the light bulb light!!
Make Rice Krispies Jump! • Normally, we hear rice krispies pop in our cereal in the morning, but now we want to see them jump! • Materials: Hand full of Rice Krispies, plate of plexiglass (foot by foot), wooden blocks or ceramic cups (need to be 1-3 inches high), and wool sweater or fake fur
Making those Krispies Jump • Procedure: • Place the Rice Krispies on the table surface • Put the wooden blocks on the table and balance the plate of plexiglass over the table and Rice Krispies • Rub the top of the plexiglass with the wool sweater or fur. • What happens?
Jump!! • The Rice Krispies slowly start to stand on end. • When you stop rubbing the plexiglass, you can see the Rice Krispies jump to the glass!
Potato Clock • Not only are potatoes delicious and nutritious, but they can also be used to power a digital clock!! • Materials: Potato clock and two potatoes • Procedure: Follow directions given in the box for the potato clock.
More Potato Power • This digital clock can alternate between the month and day as well as the time!
