Mastery Learning • Establish Clear Objectives: • Provide opportunities for practice • Check for understanding • Administer formative and summative assessments • Reteach in different and new ways • Allow for more than one option to learn something new
Activity #1: GOTCHA GAME • Concept: Apply addition, subtraction, multiplication and division operations (2 – 4 players) • Materials: Deck of Cards provided • Step 1: Shuffle the cards and distribute them evenly between the players • Step 2: Participants will analyze the cards and attempt to steal the cards away from the other player(s) by manipulating the numbers and operations • Step 3: Set the timer to 3 minutes, at the end of the 3 minutes, the player with the most cards WINS!!!
Activity #2 TANGRAM CHALLENGE • Concepts: Geometric shapes and their attributes (individual player) • Step 1: Use two shapes to create a quadrilateral, then create a drawing • Step 2: Use three shapes to create a pentagon, then create a drawing • Step 3: Use four shapes to create a triangle • Step 4: Use six shapes to create a trapezoid • Step 5: Use all seven shapes to create a square • Step 6: Go back to all the drawings and list attributes of the figures
Activity #3 GEOMETRIC VOCABULARY • Concepts: Math vocabulary (individual) • Step 1: Fold your paper in half vertically and identify the attributes • Step 2: Use the same paper and fold it in half horizontally and identify the attributes • Step 3: Fold the same paper diagonally and identify the attributes • Step 4: Outline the folded lines with a marker and identify the perpendicular lines
Activity #4 BATTLESHIP • Concepts: Identify ordered pairs on a coordinate grid (work in pairs) • Step 1: Roll the double dice • Step 2: Identify the ordered pair, mark it with your colored marker on the coordinate grid • Step 3: The other player repeats Step 1 & 2 • Step 4: If the player lands on one of the coordinates of the other player, then the point is marked with an X on the coordinate grid • Step 5: Time the game and the player with • the most points wins

Activity# 6 TRANSFORMATIONS • Concepts: Translation, Reflection, Rotation • Step 1: Set up a center for 2 students • Step 2: Use the spinner to determine what type of transformation that they will display on the laminated grid provided • Step 3: Continue spinning and taking turns using letters and pictures provided
