1 . Incisors Four front teeth in both the upper and lower jaws are known as incisors. Incisors on either side of the midline are called as a central incisor. Function: Its primary function is to cut the food.
Canines There is a total of four canines in an oral cavity. Two in the maxillary arch and other two in mandibular area. They are adjacent and behind the lateral incisors. They have one pointed cusp and a single root. It is the longest root of any tooth. Function: Their main function is to tear food.
Premolars (Bicuspids) These teeth are located behind and adjacent to the canines and are designed to crush food. There are in total 8 premolars in the oral cavity. There are two in each quadrant Function: Their function is tearing and grinding of food.
. Molar The posterior teeth in the mouth are known as molars. They are in broader and flatter surfaces with 4-5 cups each. They are made to grind the food. Function: Their function is chewing and grinding of food.
