  2. What is Social Networking? • Social networking is a group of friends, colleagues and other personal contacts who come together to share similar ideas, activities, business, etc.

  3. Social networking is possible in person, especially in the workplace, universities, and high schools, but it is mainly popular online. When it comes to online social networking, websites are commonly used. These websites are known as social sites and the most popular are: LinkedIn Facebook Twitter

  4. Facebook is a popular free social networking website that allows registered users to create profiles, upload photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues. The site is available in 37 different languages.

  5. Twitter microblogging service that allows members to announce short posts called tweets.  Unlike Facebook or LinkedIn, where members need to approve social connections, anyone can follow anyone onTwitter. It is limited to 140 characters , but yet it is enough to get your point across.

  7. LinkedIn  is a social networking website for people in professional occupations andit is mainly used for professional networking. It reports more than 225 million acquired users in more than 200 countries and territories and it is available in 20 languages.

Features of LinkedIn: • It can be used to find jobs, people and business opportunities recommended by someone in one's contact network. • Employers can list jobs and search for potential candidates. • Job seekers can review the profile of hiring managers and discover which of their existing contacts can introduce them. • Users can post their own photos and view photos of others to aid in identification. • Users can now follow different companies and can get notification about the new joining and offers available. • Users can save jobs that they would like to apply for.

  10. Negatives of social networking • You expose your personal life online and put at risk your identity. • They can be a real distraction and time wasters. Many people spend hours in social networking instead or working or studying. • Opens up the possibility for hackers to commit fraud and launch spam and virus attacks • Some people may use fake profiles to attract their prey. Those people could be sexual predators, fraudulent people, etc.
