How the Host City is Chosen: • Each applicant city applies to a nation’s Olympic committee to become the national applicant city (there may only be one applicant city per nation). • Candidate cities are given in-depth questionnaires by the International Olympic Committee (the IOC). In this stage, cities must promise they will agree to follow the terms of the Olympic Charter. • Candidate cities are then chosen by the IOC (usually there are 3-5 candidate cities) • Each candidate city then presents a plan to IOC members detailing what the Olympics would be like if they were to be held in their city. • The host city is then chosen by a vote.
