  7. Point to the right side This is where your right hand will strum the Dulcimer to play the rhythms.

  8. You will use a pick to strum

  9. How to strum Start closest to your body and gently push outward away from you in one stroke.

  10. Practice strumming on a pretend dulcimer in front of you. Move your hand and say ‘strum’ for every note.

  11. Strum now

  12. Transition Feet Criss –Cross Hands in your lap Shoulders Back Chin Level Eyes forward

  13. In a moment I will call your row. • You turn to the left and walk in a straight line to the table up front and get a pick.

  14. Hold it in your right hand like this

  15. You will then continue walking all the way to the very first Dulcimer. • Gently take it from the stack and carefully make your way back to your X

  16. You will not use the strap • I need to walk around behind and help you so please leave your Dulcimer on the floor.

  17. You may begin strumming after all is completed correctly.

  18. Strum together now

  19. Please remember that THIS is the only side that is strummed.

  20. Place your pics down on the floor now.

  21. Did you hear the notes go up and down in melody? raise your hand to answer yes or no.

  22. Point to the left side of the Dulcimer This is the side that makes the lower pitches happen. As you go down to the right, the pitches get higher

  23. Your LEFT hand holds the dowell

  24. KEEP YOUR LEFT HAND DOWN! Put your left pointer ringer on # and push down firmly.

  25. Do not pick just push down on each number in the melody

  26. Identify the pitches

  27. Do a scale for ptc with Left Dowell

  28. Push down on each melody number now

  29. This time push down with your left finger and strum with your right/ pic
