Science Without Borders Program • Boost Brazilian science, technology, innovation and competitiveness through the expansion of international mobility. (100.000 fellowships in 4 years) • Increase the presence of Brazilian researchers and students of various levels in institutions of excellence overseas;Brazilian institutions will open similar opportunities for foreign scientists and students; • Increase the innovative expertise of personnel from the technological industries; • Attract young scientific talents and highly qualified researchers to work in Brazil.
Priority Areas • Engineering and other technological areas; • Natural Sciences • Health and Biomedical Sciences ; • Computing and Information Technology; • Aerospace; • Pharmaceuticals; • Sustainable Agricultural Production; • Oil and gas; • Nuclear Energy • Renewable Energy; • Minerals; • Biotechnology; • Nanotechnology and New Materials; • Technology for prevention and mitigation of natural disasters; • Biodiversity and bioprospection; • Marine Sciences; • Technologies for the green economy; • New technologies for constructive engineering; • Capacity building for technical personnel.
Brazilians going abroad • Support the travel and scholarships for living and installation expenses and health insurance; • Undergraduate studentsfor 6 months, or up to 12 months if an internship in laboratory or in industry is included; • Support fordoctoral degrees abroad, either in complete PhD programs or in 12 months “sandwich”stays; • Postdoctoral fellowships: For candidates with a doctorate, and accepted in leading international institutions abroad. Minimum of 6 months and maximum of 24 months. • Sabbatical fellowships for senior researchers
Strategies (1) • Estimulation of spontaneous demand from Brazilian students and researchers: • SWG fellowships to Scientific Initiation Programs • SWE fellowships to Post-graduate programs • Regular calls for GDE, PDE and ESN fellowships • Highly selective criteria • Stimulate bilateral agreements between Brazilian and foreign universities
Strategies (2) • Agreements with Institutions and Universities: • Define nr of places, tuition/bench fees, selection processes • Induced national calls for applications • Identify ways to facilitate the sending of Brazilian students to American Universities (lodging, visas, etc..) • Support for prior development of language skills
Young talents to Brazil(Brazilian or foreigners) • Payment of fellowship and resources to 2 to 3 years of work in Brazil with a local group; • The host research group receives funds, as a bench fee; • International calls of proposals in leading international journals. • Up to 200 young researchers per year.
Special Visiting Researchers(Brazilian or foreigners) • Senior researchers to perform joint projects with research groups in Brazil and to work in Brazil for one or two months every year; • Doctoral students and post doctoral personnel will be supported to work in the project; • Very attractive fellowship + funding for the local laboratory; • Distinct ways of collaborating with Brazilian scientists may be proposed.
