What Are Antibiotics? • Antibiotics are powerful medicines that fight bacterial infections. • Antibiotics work by killing harmful bacteria in the body or preventing the bacteria from reproducing. • The more you take antibiotics, the more the bacteria builds up an immunity to the antibiotics, so eventually the antibiotics stop working on certain bacteria.

History • Modern scientific study of antibiotics didn’t begin until the late 1800’s, but for more than 2,500 years, people treated certain skin infections with molds that form antibiotics • The first discovery of a safe and effective antibiotic was in 1928, when British bacteriologist Alexander Fleming observed that a mold of the genus Penicillium produced a substance that destroyed bacteria, called penicillin. • Since then, more varieties of antibiotics have been discovered and put into use by the general public

  4. What are some positive effects of antibiotics? • Antibiotics have been able to combat and inhibit the spread of invasive pathogens such as malaria and aids. It has furthermore saved countless lives through curing infections such as leprosy and Lyme. • Antibiotics, which came into widespread use following World War II, are credited with an increase of life expectancy of eight years from 1944 to 1972, and with facilitating a rise in global population from about three billion to seven billion from 1945 to 2012.

Negative aspect of antibiotics and why it has failed to benefit humans • Unprescribed drugs and over dosage • Antibiotics don’t benefit the patient if it is a viral infection • Antibiotics contribute to health conditions like asthma, obesity, and cancer • Bacteria's become more resistant to the antibiotics

Positive impacts on the future with the increased antibiotics access & what KIND of access to antibiotics would be the most effective to the fund Will create a culture in the work place and will idealize peoples ability to get jobs Decrease hospitalization We should increase the locations of local health clinics so antibiotics will be more available around the world even in third word countries.
