  3. RI Data Sharing Project Goals Rhode Island is National Leader in using Shared Data Promote state agency collaboration Help state operations run more efficiently Improve outcomes for all Rhode Islanders

Rhode Island SLDS Grant Details • Between 2009 and 2012, Rhode Island was awarded $8.6 million in two federal Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS) grants • Initial focus on establishing RI Data Hub and related data projects with SLDS project team partners • Organizations currently involved as part of the SLDS grants include: • RI Department of Elementary and Secondary Education • RI Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner • RI Department of Labor and Training • RI Higher Education Assistance Authority • RI Adult Education Professional Development Center • The Providence Plan

  12. Shared Questions • What programs in RI serving the Latino population have the most favorable outcomes? What do these programs have in common? Are we graduating sufficient numbers of students in fields with high job vacancy rates? What early childhood factors and experiences impact later academic success?   • What are the geographic gaps in the RI child care landscape that impact the ability of low-income families to access high-quality services for their children? • Which foster care programs create best outcomes for students, as measured by attendance, test scores, college participation, workforce outcomes, etc.?

Shared Questions – Guidance • Does the question address a major area of focus in Rhode Island? • Can the answer advance a change in policy, program, or practice? • Does the question explicitly use longitudinal data? • Does the question use data from more than one source/agency? • Does the question address either a new topic or one that warrants greater investigation?
