NAVY METCAL Metrology and Calibration (Science of Measurement and How to make GOOD measurements)
NAVY Calibration Program • This program was set up and is operated to ensure that test equipment used by the Navy is in good working order, provides adequate service and produces accurate numbers used to verify the nominal operation of complex and critical systems that support the Operational Fleet and related programs.
Quality Program • Mandated NAVSEA program • Instruction NAVSEA 04-4734 • Command Capability Certification • Quality Management • Technical Oversight • Assigned Cognizant Engineering Support • External and Internal Audits
The Cycle Requires Support ACT • The prescription for a High Performing depot calibration program is a well trained adequately staffed laboratory and support staff. Each lab visited that lacks the necessary staff has limited ability to ACT on identified improvements.

NOTE: The Initial planning for the Regional calibration proposal of 1995 was developed in 1992, rejected by SY management and resubmitted as the 1996 RMC proposal for NW Calibration Consolidation. This proposal was rejected and resubmitted as the NW Regional Plan in 1998 (MAY). (Nearly ten years ago) Work needs to begin for a plan to exist that can be followed. This plan was not fully implemented by PSNS or SWFPAC or the Region. Currently no recently planned improvements are underway, no current studies exist concerning the actual workload, staffing or facilities.
