Introduction Sound waves exist as variations of pressure in a medium such as air. They are created by the vibration of an object, which causes the air surrounding it to vibrate. The vibrating air then causes the human eardrum to vibrate, which the brain interprets as sound.
What are ultrasonic waves? Sound waves of extremely high frequency (over 20 000 Hz) indiscernible for a human ear. Ultrasound is used for examining different body structures, performed in much the same way as X-ray. However, a patient doesn’t & acutest need to be exposed to the potentially harmful X-radiation.
Applications of Ultrasonic waves There are numerous practical applications for ultrasonic. The first widespread use was in underwater exploration. Ultrasonic waves proved to be an excellent method for determining the depth of water. Ultrasonic also are used to map the shape of lake and ocean floors. Submarines use ultrasonic waves to maintain secret contact with each other.
